Here are some pictures of original Schrade Handles ( scales and liners ) in various states of completion. ( some dyed some with liners and bolsters, some shielded some just babies just cut from the webbing not even dyed. Pretty damn sad.) You will notice the White and other strange colors some that match the webbing material ( see pics ) from which after being extruded and formed they were cut and then dyed for the Old Timer or Uncle Henry series. As you can see from these pics. Staglon and Sawcut delrin were indeed PLASTIC. These poor unfulfilled beautys now languish knowing that there true purpose in life has been usurped. There is even one with the 100 year ann logo. It did not come with a certificate. LT

LT,
Very interesting. Could you please explain the process to me?
You say "webbing", does the raw Staglon & Delrin come in a roll? How wide and what depth is it? Is it flexible like canvas webbing?
I'm completely in the dark as to the process(es) that it takes to get the scale ready to place on a knife frame.
Thanks,
Del

I'll take a stab at it, then LT can correct my errors. Those plastic scales are injection molded. In injection molding, plastic granules are heated and "injected" under pressure into metal molds, where the molten plastic hardens into a designated shape. The mold then opens and the newly formed part is removed, clipped from the runners, or webbing and inspected, ready for secondary manufacturing operations. The webbing is the "H" shaped piece of scrap plastic in the photos. The big cylindrical "knob" seen in the center is the main injection gate. The plastic flows in there, down the channels that form the long portion of the webbing, out to each side, and in through the final gate to each cavity of the mold. Those look like eight cavity molds that produce eight parts per shot. The mold is then cooled by nitrogen usually, then the press opens and kicker pins pop the hardening molded parts out still attached to the webbing. An operator retrieves the shot from a bin, or a pick-and-place robot deliveres it to the table where the operator examines it for splay, burning, blows, etc. (flaws) then clips the good parts from the webbing and sends them on to production. The webbing usually goes into a scrap bin for chipping into new pellets. Whew!

At 1st I thought I was reading a review of the new spiderman movie.

Hey woofer when the big dog gets there if he is with his son perhapes you might want to pick up a few dollars by challanging his son to a game of chess with a small wager. I being a devotee of chance would even place a small amount of dollars on the out come I believe I would choose the young fellow just to make it sporting. I will not be going to any play for a couple of weeks so I have a few dollars put aside. Aw heck I would be able to put up 10 or 20 ( thou ). Perhapes however in the sense of honesty you should know the lads credentials. Big dog is a bit to modest to mention it. However I played tournament chess many years ago ( it is a young mans game I have not the mind or patiences anymore ). I am quite glad that I never encountered this fellow. Perhapes Big dog may be enticed to take a picture of this young mans latest victory trophy. By the way being nationally rated is no mean effort. International should be close. LT PS Chess is the way all wars should be fought for if we were smart enough to understand all of the possibilitys and ramifications, they would always end in draws and thus would in fact show the futility of even beginning the useless endeaver.. It is only when someone wins that it shows the fallability of people because they cannot see all of the possibilitys. If we would only look at history we would at least understand this futility even if we are not clever enough to always ensure a stalemate in every engagment.

LT,
Thanks for the heads up......but I don't play someone else at their own game.
It was a learning process to avoid total destruction at that type of thing. I don't think I am so smart as to whip a prodigy, especially a good one. I have learned some things in 56 years on the planet, as I've been hustled by the best.

Want to pitch quarters? Bring it on...... :)

My apology I only used you to show this wonderful achievment. I know these people would never toot there own horn. I believe you will understand. Thankyou my friend LT

No sweat,
I'm sure the young ones are from good stock, as their dad seems to be a great guy. With a legendary car...... :D

Certainly no apology necessary, for that's a skill which I can only admire. I'm still searching for Bobby Fischer.

Bill

P.S.
No rain dances will be allowed until at least the 22nd....my birthday.... ;)

Fischer was over rated I met him in Central Park a lot of years ago. Yup I lost. but he did not Want a rematch. I guess I was not much of an adversary. He wiped me in some what over 40 moves. Like I said I am not Einstien . Please excuse spelling.

Wow I did not realize my reference to a chance encounter many many years ago would have caused the amount of email I received. So here is the story which really is no big deal. Central Park in NYC at one time was where often you could find players some of whom went on to become quite well known in many fields. Fischer was a great player his only fault was that he was Nuts. Somewhat like the guy Monk on TV. I on the other hand ( while also being nuts ) was the type of person who did not fit the 60 tys mold of a chess player High and tight crew cut, an open bottle bottle of beer ect. So I was chided a bit by the local snobbery of left wing long hair liberals who were there, and I was taken rather lightly in fact Fischer only condresended to play me along with some other people all at the same time and it cost me 5 dollars. However because of my looks and attitude he did not pay much attention to me until early on I traded a pawn for a knight that he did not expect. Now on top of that you must understand that we instantly had not liked each other he wore a neat coat with patchs on the elbows ( like a professor) I was spitting copenhagen on the ground and just missing hitting his brown loafers. All this being said it just took him a little longer to finish me off than it usually did most players. No big deal but if you are looking for him they say he has been in Japan which is a good place since Japan and China ect are where most knives ( some with american flags on the boxes ) are now made ( KNIFE CONTENT ). LT

I remember Bobby Fischer quite well. "Nuts" hardly covers him. He was/is a one-trick-poney who played great chess, but lost bigtime in the ultimate game, life. I am not surprised that a good poker player strung him along in a chess game. There is a vast difference between arrogance and audacity.

He is "persona nongrata in the U.S. now and, after bopping around the world on expired visas and passports firing shots at the U.S.A. from the underground, has plopped himself down in Iceland.

Nuts? " The Budapest station eventually cut him off, but a similar episode occurred after the September 11, 2001 terrorism attacks. Here, Fischer gave a broadcast interview to Bombo Radyo, a small public-radio station based in Baguio City in the Philippines. "This is all wonderful news," Fischer said. "I applaud the act. The U.S. and Israel have been slaughtering the Palestinians, just slaughtering them for years. Robbing them and slaughtering them. Nobody gave a sh**. Now it's coming back to the U.S. F*** the U.S. I want to see the U.S. wiped out."

An ultimate looser if ever I saw one. LT, you won bigtime in the endgame, the one that counts. Honor, respect, proud to be your friend!

LT,

I am still fashimil. Tell Phil to ask his girlfriend what that means. LT PS would you like to hear the story of when I met Willis Reed. I was night manager of a motel in Monticello some guy pulled up in one of those giant middle 60 tys buicks. You used to sink way down in the seats so you could not tell how big the driver was from the outside. So this guy parks in the wrong area. I pulled my manly frame out to the parking lot and informed him that he had to move which he did in a very gentleman like way. I then strode back to the office. Then the guy got out and out and out, He was a giant he came into the office and asked about the bar manager who was not there at the time. He left him a note and signed it. I do not follow basketball and in fact do not like the game. So I did not know who he was until the bar manager came back and informed me. Now here is the good part while the guy was in the office we started talking and I in my infinite wisdom in the course of the conversation asked him if he had ever considered playing basketball Yup a true story. Again being the gentleman he was he said he had considered it. ( Later on I found out he had just been named Rookie of the year. ) Then there was the time I gave Donald Trump a ride home He was in high school in Cornwall NY at the NYMA New York Military Academy. ( It is a private prep type school ). I met him in a pizza Joint called Peppys ( in Newburgh ) A friend of mine introduced me to him he told me his name and I said GET OUTA HERE YOUR KIDDING RIGHT. We discussed money I asked him the best way to make big bucks. His answer was penny stocks. He told me to take 20 or 30 thou and invest in them. I told him if I had 20 thou I would not need his advice. He told me his dad had 3 mil put aside for him when he turned 21 so that he could start getting some practical investment experience. In the mean time I drove him back to NYMA that night I missed the turn off to the school so ( having had a few beers and being 16 at the time ) I made a U turn ( over the median ) in my 51 buick and screwed up something underneath it ( since it never drove right again ). I figure he still owes me for my messing up my car. I wonder what ever happened to him. You cannot make this stuff up and who would want to. Oh well it has been interesting.

It does indeed sound interesting! I have met a few famous people, but not so as they would remember. I performed with Jerry Clowers years ago at a benifit in Oxford Missisippi. That guy was a hoot! And when I met Chuck Conners at a rodeo, I thought he was all hollywood hype with his winchester. He proved me wrong rapping off six shots before I could yell B-E-A-R! I guess my favorite was in Baltimore when I stayed in a rowhouse a block from the Orioles stadium. I showed up for practices and shook hands and got signatures on a foul ball hit by Boog Powell. Gene Brabender, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Wally Bunker, Larry Haney, Curt Blefary, Moe Drabowsky, Dave McNally, the whole team signed it. Their club finished the season with a .562 winning percentage. They wouldn't remember me, but I remember them. The most Famous was the tragedy from Hope, Arkansas. Oh, the stories I could tell but won't!
