Overbuilt folder

Watch ebay for a ZT0600 - almost like having a handmade RJ Martin, and overbuilt? Yes.

You can get them for $400 if you watch.

The Satu is a solid tool. And I'm not sure if they are still doing the toothie edge anymore. I have the ti-ti version and have used the knife to cut everything from cardboard to sharpening broom sicks.

Well the satu is looking to be the best knife for me as of now, unless I find out if the dua comes back in stock soon.

For the money I think it is very very hard to beat a Benchmade Adamas.
If you are wanting something more expensive then also look at Demko AD-10

Toothy edge...mine didn't come with one, it has a smooth almost mirror edge. Zt0600 would be an awesome too.

A Flaherty model one is a nice more pocketable option too. Mine is .2 thick A2 and Ti frame with micarta. Tough as nails!

An Ontario Hossom is great too if you can find one.

I strongly second the suggestion of the Spyderco Tuff. If you're looking for an overbuilt hard-use use-it-to-pry-apart-a-tank knife, that's your best option for a number of reasons:
- Price. It's about half the price of any other knife that has the same materials and construction.
- Materials. Titanium framelock is pretty standard, but the blade steel is 3V which has insanely high lateral strength and edge retention apparently in the S30V range. So, good wear resistance combined with the ability to hammer it through a tree.
- Construction. Incredibly solidly built. Look at the lockbar. Kinda short, right? Weird, right? That increases the lock strength immensely compared to having a full-length lockbar. See that pivot? Gigantic.

Things you won't buy it for:
- Looks. It's an incredibly ugly knife.
- Lightweight carry. 6.2 ounces is honestly great given the other characteristics and dimensions of the knife, but it's no featherweight.
- Self defense. It's really just not the knife for it. At all. It would make a better striking weapon than cutting weapon. Use a frisbee motion and you might be able to knock someone out with a good toss.
- Stain resistance. 3V is not stainless, but don't let that scare you.

Ultimately, if you're looking for the right tool, I think that's the knife. You might find better looking ones, and you might find ones with steel that's more stainless, but not for anything like $200.

Pass on this one and buy a ZT 560.

Agreed. It's the "tankiest" ZT with some class. Sculpted titanium with CF inlay. Great flipper action for such a heavy blade.

Blade steel is B75P with a length of 4.25" and thickness of 0.19". Weighs 7.3 ounces.

You can find it with stonewashed or black DPC blade.

If you want to spend about half that you might want to check out a Spyderco Chinook (I own a Gen 1). A real beast of a folder- rock solid. I know people who've used them as throwing knives and it left 'em no worse for the wear - seriously.

Be sure and turn on the English subtitles if they don't come up.

Project VECP all the way if you want something that is overbuilt to such a degree that it is almost ridiculous. I'm personally a bigger fan of the VECP than most CRKs and Striders.

I've looked at the 560, but people say the elmax on it has a very bad heat treat.

When ZT first started with ELMAX, it good a bad reputation due to chipping issues as KAI was in the process of the learning curve. That was a while ago now. Today they've really gotten the ELMAX HT really well, and it yields a blade steel that second-to-none. Like S35VN, it's a steel with excellent edge retention, fantastic toughness, and fantastic corrosion resistance. For a folding knife, it's a great choice. Like S35VN, it has an unusual level of toughness relative to how stainless it is and the wear resistance it yields, giving great all-around performance and making it a great choice for an overbuilt folder because of its higher toughness relative to most other stainless steels with that level of corrosion resistance and edge retention. It's one of my favorite steels.

Hey guys I just stumbled upon the spyderco techno! That thing looks like a mini tank! Anyone here have any experience with it?

Looked at his website, a little over my price range but damn they look nice. Do you have one? And if so how long did an order with him take?

He is getting really popular now. A few months waiting period and he has a few in stock ready to ship. I’d drop him a line before the waiting period goes in two years rather than months.

I do have one. And I can tell you this. He is a perfectionist when it comes to knife making, and his customer service and R&D he puts in to them is just mind blowing. I highly recommend them.
