Thanks for sharing another tripLooks like it was a nice and relaxing outing.
Hmm, you must be more sensitive to it, with all your aversion to heatLike I said before, I haven't noticed too much of a problem, it's always cooler under than outside the tarp shade. Next time I'll take my dual-temp probe out and actually check, haha
. Anyway, the weather looked pretty mild/calm for your outing, so I'm thinking if you had pitched higher you would have been more comfortable (looks to be a wooded enough area for you to find large enough branches to help).
This day was high 80's at least, maybe got into the low 90's in the afternoon. Note the lofty pitch
I enjoyed your photos. The insect shots are pretty good. But the landscape shots are the ones that make you want to go there and hang out as they seem to give you a good feel for the terrain and so forth.
great pics as always sir. beautiful area you get to play in so often.
Great stuff, looks like a relaxing place.
It's a beautiful world and we are very lucky to be able to go places like that. Thanks for sharing.
you're welcome! heh, high 80's i'm already sweating just reading iti took a nap after setting it up and every time i rolled over to where the sun was coming from/through the tarp, it was too bright for my eyes that i got woken up partly and i rolled over again. ofcourse i'm not ruling out that i might be part vampire!

Haha, oh yeah, I definitely would want it to block more sunlight for sure. More solid shade like one of those nice and opaque heavy duty poly tarps.... I've definitely experienced the whole "it's too bright when facing up" thing  Sometimes I'll throw something light (puffy jacket, shirt, quick dry towel, baclava, etc) on top of the tarp directly above my face to block more sun. But it's got to be light so it won't stress the tarp, and you can't have much wind. If I were camping out all day or more than a day, I might consider rigging up a cheap mylar blanket spread over the top to reflect light and heat and add to the shade opacity.
Someone needs to start making light/ultralight tarps with more sunlight blocking power....
Awesome photos JV, I always look forward to your threads!
Hehe. Harriman state park, NY, south of the lemon squeezer. I'm thru-hiking this year and just made it to my home state of NJ.
There are these great things called trees that provide shade, ya'know.![]()
Man am I jealous! I haven't been out on the trails in a while. Great pics, looks like an amazing trip.
Nice pics man! That dusk shot lookin' out over the water was great! Made me wanna hang my Clark right along side!
