Overnight corrosion?

I make a habit of wiping my blades. Especially with ones I really love like this one. That being said, it doesn't happen every time. Not sure how something that corrosive got on the blade. Yes, the corrosion was all down in the blade well. Was built up so much that it was spilling out.

Just after snapping pictures the other day, I flushed thoroughly with water. Then washed again with soap and water. Finished off with a little oil on blades and in joints and the well. A patina remains but the blade does not appear to have damage, thank goodness. Want to use this one and don't mind the patina. I tossed the slip in case the culprit is still in there. No idea what got on that blade. Thanks for the responses.

I´ve been told, that I should NEVER leave a carbon steel blade in a leather sheath or so because of the acids that are used in leather production. They will definetely cause corrosion on carbon steel blades. Concerning this you´re happy that just one blade was infected

Not necessarily. I stored my Schrade Scrimshaw SC505 in a home-made vegetable tanned leather slip continuously for at least fifteen years with no ill effects. Also of note, I left some 22 ammo in a home-made chrome tanned leather pouch for a few months and all the brass corroded. Now I make sure I know what kind of leather I'm dealing with!

I may just use it for a while and see how it develops. I’ll post some updated pics of her down the line. Thanks for the info guys.
