overnighter with Andrew7978

spooky, i know :o but i don't want it rubbing off on my bag etc...there were a couple of stubborn spots though, that will probably grow with time...

my coffee can billy is still black, no matter how much i scrub (or use the Dawn cleaner on it) so can i keep my black pot club badge? ;)

awesome stuff man, looks like you had a good night. Wish I was there.:thumbup:

Awsome trip and good pics as well... Have you tryed to make pine needle tea??? Now we all need to do it for 2-3 days.. But maybe wait till it gets somewhat warmer.. Im working on learning more about plants and traping... Siguy what brand of sleeping bag are you getting???

"Figure out how to set up your tent before you go. This was first time I tarp tented and since I used my tent footprint, it didn't have grommets on all sides. It took a few tries, but with Simon's help we got it set up pretty nicely."

Improvements could have been made by means of toggles. Illustration below is for a tarp apex but you can apply the same thing to the edges. You'll find the importance of getting your tarp up quite taught the first time you suffer a bit of wind flap. Add in precipitation...

Blue = tarp
Orange = stone, twig, button...
Green = string

... i suppose it could be a frying pan, but i would be afraid of hurting the temper.

No offense Simon, but I don't think this guy ^^^ was worried at all about the shovels' tempers. Mighty FINE looking eggs.:) My Dad used to do this when he was in Nam, so I'd assume it was not that unusual. Just thinking. :thumbup: Oh, yeah. Great write up. Very enjoyable, clearly written, interesting asides, etc..

Great write up, guys. It looks like you guys had a blast. It sucks you had to keep getting up to restart the fire. I guess that's the way it goes sometimes when larger pieces of wood will not light.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

we didn't try making pine needle tea, i will probably give it a go this weekend.

i'm getting a snugpack 32 degree F bag, should keep me considerably warmer. i might still have to use hot rocks in the cooler temps, but i'm not too concerned...

Great write up. Have you tried coating the outside of your pots-cups with any liquid dish soap and let dry prior to use? Makes clean up super easy.

I'm glad you mentioned your Cold Steel Shovel. I've been wanting to pick up something similar but all the reviews I've read are mixed. It sounds like all of the ET's out there are pretty good but none of them are really good. Glad to hear you liked yours. I've been leaning toward that one.

That winter camo tarp works amazingly well to blend in!

I think this is the only forum in the world where somebody can post that they spent the night in the woods behind their with house with another guy they met off the internet and nobody think it's weird. :)

Good write up.

Awesome!! I'd like to get out and try some winter camping again. Last time I did any of it was probably 20+ yrs ago in Boy Scouts
