Oversharpened Sebenza

I'm making my way throught the learing curve on the EP. I've tweaked the tip of a couple of knives in the process.
I was looking back at the EP youtube site, he had a quick fix that's worth a try on the vertical scratches...
painters tape down the body of the blade as a protective covering. I've yet to try it but it seems like it would work well.
I hope you and your can come to a reasonable resolution on this. Never a good thing when expensive knives get between friends.

my god....i bet it cuts well though...right?! i hope he makes it right for you, but i'd still make use of that blade. i just picked up a sharpmaker for my seb, im way too scared to touch the factory edge because from what i've heard, its a convex edge but the sharpmaker does flat edges....but thats for another thread.

PKDA that is what I used to do. Tape the blade. Tape on the base of the egdepro just held abrasives even better.

If you ask CR about replacing the regular style blade, I'd like to know what they say. I would imagine that as long as the annual LE's are still being produced, they keep a supply on hand. There is a chance, though, that those may be held back strictly for warranty work not for correcting sharpening mishaps.

I hope that your buddy is a GOOD friend.

Financial remuneration aside, there is only one way to atone for this.

(( ouch ))
(( not the right forum for that ))

If he is a real friend, he probably feels worse or as bad as you do. I would not give my Sebenza or Umnumzaan to a friend to sharpen unless I had seen his work on these knives prior. I value my knives a lot, they bring me some primitive form of satisfaction that I find pleasing. But I have such few friends that I value them more than the cost of any knife I own. With my friends I work at not setting up situations that could lead to a stressful environment between us.

You did not mention if you paid for his services so I will assume (I know) you did not pay for his time and talents. But if you paid or didn't pay him, we all know how easy it is to screw up a blade while sharping. I can't help but feel you own part of the drama that is going on between you and your friend. You handed him your knife and you take your chances. If he is willing to pay the cost to fix your knife, he truly sounds like a good person that made a real mess of things and is trying to make it right. If he is a friend, I hope he is not reading this thread. Very sorry your knife got screwed up, I know you will feel a lot better when it is fixed.

It would be very difficult for your friend to put the bevel back to anything near to the original condition.

I reprofiled my Regular using a Sharpmaker. The tip section does look a little odd, but the knife cuts well now. I bought the knife direct from CRK and the edge was a very poor performer when I received it.
