Overwhelmed by sharpener choices

Waterstones may be in my future. But for now I've ordered the Spyderco Sharpmaker and the AG Russell Ceramic set with the wooden base. I'll place one in the kitchen and keep the other in my office.

Thanks for all of the helpful replies. Since I'm a knife accumutor, not a knife user, the issue of sharpening rarely comes up.

If you don't mind spending the cash, I say get an Edge Pro.

I use my Edge Pro to establish the edge or reprofile, and a Sharpmaker for quick touchups.

EdgePro definitely.Makes a beginner a pro in very short order.

I have the sharpmaker and use that for touch ups, for anything odd shaped I tend to use wet&dry paper. I find it relaxing to get out the paper and sort out the knives so that they have a really good edge.

Kitchen knives tend to be fairly easy to sharpen as they have easy curves and tend to be thin compared to some camp use knives
