Anyone else own knives (other than collectables) that you never use but refuse to part with? Here's mine:

Kershaw Rainbow Leek - To damn pretty
Boker Trapperliner in Stag - Nice stag I can't bear to mess up
BM 2550 Auto - Had to have an auto in the collection right?
Ontario SP10 "Marine Raider" - Just like a BIG knife I guess

Anyone sharing my sickness?

I have a Bucklite 426 I only use during hunting season, that's the knife I use the least, just a few times a year really if that. Oh yeah, I also have a Gerber Gator + Gerber Multiplier 600 that I never use and can't get rid of because nobody wants them..

That would be nearly all the knives I own, over 150 of them. Most are just for lookin' at.

CRKT Hissatsu, black blade. That thing feels alive in my hand, but I've yet to fall prey to marauding ninjas, so.....

That'd be 99% of my collection
1 Calypso Jr- stays as a sharpness benchmark
1 Spyderco Mouse with a Concealex sheath...getting rare and I'm keeping it, even though it has kydex marks
Ek #3- it feels deadly and I love it!
CRKT M16s and KFFs (gonna keep these LNIB cause I love their design, but I brought them after they were discontinued, so irreplacable)
Camillus Sizzle- HAD to have an assisted opener. It's my favorite toy. Got it from D Ralph himself, liner has traveled to the other side, but hasn't touched yet

also have a lot of them including:

* MT LCC 1st gen - a good carry knife, did carry an earlier one i had but this one is NIB, and will remain that way.

*MT SOCOM elite anapeen finish - carried another one of these some too, love the anapeen finish, imho the SOCOM elite is one of the very best around.

*emerson I&I tanto, ECA P-Tac w/a zero bevel grind blade, CQC8 EKI/SF collaboration - all of these are rarely seen EKI's that i never carry but will keep.

*darrel ralph maxx 4" spear point talonite blade carbon fibre handles #3 of 5, this knife has as good/better F&F than any other knife i have ever seen, flawless, am sure it would be a great edc but i wont use it for that.

No, at some time or another I carry 'em and use 'em all, well 'cept maybe my Case Equal End Pen from the 20's.

I carry traditional slipjoints and, on occasion, a small lockback or linerlock. All of my tacticals are unused, about 1/2 my fixed blades are unused and over 90% of my slipjoints are unused. It is a sickness, isn't it?

I'm somewhat the opposite of Blades_Two.
I have plenty of traditionals but I usually carry a tactical.

I just can't carry a knife without a pocket-clip these days.

If I own it I use it. Some more than others, and some harder than others, but they all are used to cut things.

A benchmade model 500 monarch lockback. It was my daily carry when I first got it, one of my first good quality US made knives. It was supplanted by my Spyderco Endura, and hasn't been carried since. If it had a pocket clip I might still carry it on occasion, but now it's just sort of a memento of my youth :p

Thanks for the replies, I can now show my wife that I'm not crazy. T. Erdelyi thanks even more for the photo, kinda puts my 50 or so knife collection into perspective. Guess I could try to collect girlfriends, but know that would be way more expensive. ;)

I use/will use/have used every knife in my collection and plan to keep doing just that. I don't really care how much I paid for the knife, or how much it might be worth now, I like to use them. For that reason I don't see myself buying very expensive art knives because I know they wouldn't get used.

Anyone who has more than a couple of knives will obviously have a few sitting around at some point as it is just impossible to use all of them. I rotate my carry knife a bit, or change it depending on what I will be doing. I don't own a single knife that I haven't used, and probably never will. However I bet everyone here has at least one knife, probably more, that sits unused for a fair amount of time.

I'm a big believer in knives as tools, and tools are for using... but I admit I have a few that you won't ever find in my pockets.
  • In some cases, I bought 'em for looks, and want to keep 'em looking new and purty. ;)
  • In some cases, they're rare and valuable, and I want to keep them minty for a rainy day. :(
  • In some cases, they just aren't practical for EDC. ("Is that a Vaquero Grande in your pants, or are you just REALLY glad to see me?") :D
  • In some cases, they were legal when/where I bought them, but I don't DARE take them outside the house here in the People's Republic of New Jersey.

Looks like so far most responses fall into one or more of those categories.

I am paring down my collection, I still have about 50 fixed and folding knives, I have thought about putting some in my tackle box, some in tool box, some in my camping gear, some here, some there, but I like to look at mine and handle them, if not using them, about once a week. If you have a knife you really like that you haven't been using, look at the price of it, look at the collectible value of it, look at whether or not you would pass it on as an heirloom etc. If you think you can make a quick buck to get the next passing fancy, or if you think someone else can appreciate it better(like me :D), then give it away.

That "multiple GF thing" will prove to be not only way more expensive but also, highly detrimental to your health!:D
