Owning a balisong in the UK

i have been researching the Balisong law in the UK and I know you are allowed to own one in your house but is there any official documentation that says this ?
 
Legal permitted actions are characterized by the lack of law against it. Thus if legal, there is no documentation to find because there is no law. I'm not up to speed on UK laws but my understanding is that all ownership of edged items inside the home is permitted, but purchase, import, and carry have restrictions.
 
Sorry to tell you . but it's illegal to carry own buy or sell a balisong in the UK . and that goes for switchblades aswell .

Right except for the "own" part. I looked the law up. "butterfly knives" named in several UK laws, most prominently in The Criminal Justice Act 1988 (Offensive Weapons) Order 1988. Long story short, it's illegal to sell, offer to for sale, lend, give, or import them. So yes while you technically can "own" one privately, you have no legal way obtain one in the first place.
