AKA wood sorrel. This weed is completely taking over my property. Its on all 4 sides of my yard, infested into all my plants and bushes. It is killing my hostas. I've sprayed, pulled and weeded to no end, but it just keeps comming. Anyone have any idea how to kill this wildly invasive plant life?

BTW it tastes pretty good, kind of sour.

ferti-lome Brush and Stump Killer does a pretty good job on it. Like clover, once it gets established the root system turns woody, so most weed killers are not very effective on it. I used to know what the active ingredient in the Brush and Stump killer was, but I've been out of that business for a few years.

Did you try Roundup?I use the concentrate and then mix it a little stronger than recommended,I haven't found anything that it won't kill.

Roundup has a good burn down, but a lot of woody perennials will survive to come back from the root. The Brush and Stump Killer works better on them. It also has the advantage of not killing the grass.

Thanks for the tips. This stuff is in all my bushes, plants and grass. I need something that won't kill everything.

Use a paintbrush to brush the chemical directly onto the leaves of the undesired plants to avoid accidentally killing the stuff you want to keep. Tedious, but it beats replacing a bunch of shrubs and perennials.

I'll have to check my Toxicology books, a vague bell is ringing that it is somehow toxic to eat...

Based on my life long experience, here is a sure way to get rid of it. First, you must decide that you want to go into the Wood Sorrel business. Next, invest all of your life savings and a 2nd mortgage on your home towards this new endeavor. The Wood Sorrel will be dead and gone in 1 week! :D

Roundup is designed to kill weeds, ect, and after a few weeks, the area is ready to plant again.

In other words, the weeds will come back after Roundup.

I use some stuff from Ortho called Ground Clear. It used to be called 'Kleenup'.

This stuff kills the sprayed area for 1 year. It has killed everything in its path, including bamboo. bamboo hasn't ever returned. I have planted in sprayed areas the following year, with no problems at all.

Don't spray anything that you want to keep, and be prepared not to plant the sprayed area for 1 year afterwards.

Lol, Ronsec, I think you have the right idea. If I set up shop to sell wood sorrel as an herb, with my luck, I'll have none to sell within a week.

Anyone want to buy wood sorrel by the bushel???? I have tons of it. Will sell for cheap. lol

Not toxic per se, but it's not recommended that you make it a part of your daily diet as it does contain a significant amount of oxalic acid which can build up to toxic levels.

Makes pretty good soup or a flavorizer for salad or meats.

Just checked my Tox stuff from school... no mention. Keep in mind this info is close to 20 yrs. old though... (damn! when did I get THAT old?)

I went to my local farmers co-op and asked about this invasive weed. They recommended Ortho weed be gone max. Mix 2 Oz to 1 gallon of water, and spray. I've sprayed everything everywhere. Supposed to kill what you don't like but leave the grass. Ill update this thread when I see some results.
