oxidation ?

I have finished grinding and sanding a knife that I made from an old rasp. In the past , I have noticed oxidation coming from underneath handle scales. What steps can I take to avoid this ?

I haven't decided yet. Will that make a difference ? And what about general, light oxidation over the entire blade ?

A carbon steel blade will oxidize. The oxide layer on the surface actually helps to protect the blade from worse corrosion. Many people just speed this up with bluing, dipping in FC, or other etching/aging processes. The blade has to be sanded to a fine enough surface to help limit places for rust and oxidation to form easily.
After a blade is sanded to a 400 grit finish or higher, and etched or patinaed as desired, the handle is installed.
A good grade epoxy is used to both help attach the scales/handle as well as to seal under he handle from moisture and rust.
Finally, the blade should be protected with an oil or wax like Renaissance.

If you make it a hidden tang and epoxy well there will be no oxidation whete the handle is
