Tomorrow I have a private show, and just finished 42 oyster knives. I though you chaps might like to see them. I vary the handle style because all hands are not the same. The woods range from Ebony, to macadamia, to pink ivory.

Very nice Stacy. Those should work very well... What steel did you use and what HT did you use for this type of knife? Thanks for sharing...

They look great!

Great choice of handle materials, I like 'em.

Nice, Stacy:thumbup: We do a lot of shucking out here. I'm just about an hour away from Tomales Bay and we get ours straight from the farm most of the time.

Those look really nice. The handle shapes look very comfy and I could see myself popping a few dozen open easily with one of those!

Here is a pic of a plate of Hog Island small sweetwaters that the wife and I had on New Year's eve. Kind of a tradition of ours, even the little ones have a few.

Steel is plain old 440C - 1/2X1/8". Just round a slightly tapered tip on each 4" piece, and run a 45 degree bevel down one side all the way around, leaving the bottom flat. Bend the blade 3/4" back from the tip so it drops about 1/4". HT as a batch at 1900F, dump out of the packet into oil, and temper at 900F. This makes a tough and stainless blade with reasonable hardness. I haven't tested one, but they should be in the low 50's.

Hmmm, a private showing of dozens of oyster shucking knives... Just what kind of party is that going to be? Sounds like it might be kind of kinky. Stacy I knew you were full of energy, but didn't know you had that much!

Stacy, the knives are good looking. My best oyster knife had a very big guard, I think it was a "dreizack" from Solingen, but I could be wrong. That guard was VERY helpfull for a young apprentice shucking his first hundred dozens oysters. You MAY want to look into them at some point, it would be a nice feature.

I like them. To me it's a nice way to showcase some very pretty woods. I'm curious, what type of show is it and what additional product will you bring? Seems like I'd read you had a few other pieces for this show...

I do three private shows a year at the jewelry store. We send out e-fliers and post signs about the show. We also include it in any adds running at that time. I put out fillet knives, oyster knives, some folders, and assorted other knives. I also display several of my higher end pieces and customs, as well as my case of minis. I usually end up booking a couple of custom orders from folks who say, " Do you ever make......."

Response is good for these shows, and it makes more people aware that I make custom knives. Todays show was much slower than usual due to the super bowl, but I still sold 11 knives. Over the next few weeks, I will probably get several more sales from people who couldn't come.

Do you do clam knives,as well ??
-Vince

I haven't made any, but someone will ask if they want one. When oysters are available, who wants clams, anyway.
