Pàdruig's Random Adventure Thread

Well, this last weekend was the last couple of days for archery elk and deer season. Though I didn't manage to make a kill, my buddy got himself an elk on Saturday, so I got to help field dress and pack it out. 2 elf for our small party of 5 guys, that's not too bad for a regular bow hunting season. I will give it another go in December for our late deer season, but for now I will throw my feet up and enjoy a few quiet weekends for a change. Well, I hope to anyway...

I got some great pics of some of our countryside over here. The leaves are starting to turn so it makes for some nice contrast. Please forgive the pic quality, I didn't realize until later that there was a big smudge on the lens.

Came across some big trees, nice to see some older growth.

Here is an old man for you... This tree has been here a long time... Pictures don't do it justice.

I grilled up some butterflied elk tenderloin. I can't tell you how glorious that was. We paired it with BACON, potatoes, onions and some fresh chanterelle mushrooms. Heavenly....

We're gonna start bringing crazy stuff into the woods with us. We've though about freezing some t-bone steaks and by the time we hike to our destination, it will be thawed out ready to cook over a campfire!

Insanely jealous. Beautiful area. That old tree is awesome. We're not getting any color here. We started to, but it's so dry everything is just dying.

That's the way to do it. Earlier this year, my brother and I brought out a rack of pork ribs, a thick London broil steak, and a bunch of corn on the cob. It is safe to say our packs were considerably lighter on our way out. So worth it though.

That sucks, man. We might have been destined for much of the same but we've been getting a fair amount of moisture up in the mountains, which is not only great for the wildfires, but it got the animals moving too. I didn't see a single deer all season until this last weekend and I saw 9 in one day. No shots though.... :(

We're supposed to get a bit of rain tomorrow night, but I think it's too little too late. Still take it though.

Still trying to figure out what was better looking the beautiful fall colors or that plate of food ;) Thanks Padruig for sharing your time in the woods
