+P+ ammunition question

That must be the 10mm FBI load ! The full 10mm loads were too much for LE use so they had a reduced 'FBI' load closer to the 40. ...Always read the instructions to see what the gun maker advises ! Bullet placement is much more important than extra power ! Some standard load 9mm have always done well like the Federal 9-BP. ..If your gun can take it use a premium 9mm +p .I wouldn't use a +p+ in any of my guns. Of course you could be smart like me and go to the 40S&W for a real cartridge !!..BTW there is no 40+p even if you see ads for it !

My guess is that your USP will run like a sewing machine with just about any 9mm you run through it. You should be able to tell by the headstamp on the case who made it (WW=Winchester, R-P=Remington, etc).

As for using it for SD, as long as it goes bang all the time, that's really your only concern. That said, JHP design is always a work in progress, so you might be better off with something newer.

If you're really worried about shooting it, just ship it to me and I'll gratefully use it in one of my blasters. Remember, the best ammo is free. ;)

You probably already know this, but the .40 was born as a direct result of the FBI load pushing a 180 grain bullet @ 950 fps.

It was observed that a case as long as the 10mm was not required to acheive that velocity with that bullet weight.

The .45 acp is a grand old round, but requires a full size frame to hold it. The big thing for the .40 was it would fit in existing 9mm platforms (with some mods, perhaps)

Add to that increased capacity over a .45 in a grip that was still very manageable and the rest, as they say, is history !!

.

imho any advantage .40 S&W has over 9MM (+P, +P+, or std) is so small its not worth worrying about, with good, modern ammo anyway.

use w-w ranger, remington golden sabre or speer gold dot and a 9MM will do anything ya need it to.

The ammo was Golden Sabre.

BTW, looking through the storage area, I also found some Black Talon +P+ ammo.
I'm not sure how old it was, but I know it was taken out of production some time ago.

I ran it through the Glock, and it worked just fine.
