Here is the link to the pics of the axe head. I believe it to be either a Plumb or Kelly boy’s axe with the original haft. It was bowed badly and the kerf was filled with screws and fencing staples. I used a soft wood wedge to try and fill some gaps left by them. After a second clamp and heating with a torch (cringe), one side of the haft had gotten darker than I had wanted. But instead of making it match, I left the opposing side the way it was. I took a wire wheel to the edge and honed it on some leather. The right shoulder had a chunk of wood out of it, so I cut a piece of filler and glued/clamped it into place. Coat of oil and 5 coats of wax later, it’s done. The haft makes it a non-performer, but if it’s all original and a woodslasher or Plumb, I’ll gladly retire it due to only having $10 invested.
Were those cast heads? Seems like I've come across those hatchets with under sized eyes.https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/marion-tool-co-alloy-crafcoite-single-3771579573
I suspect it was made by Marion, Their Matowoc brand was often sold with red painted palm swells
It is good question. I have only run into Marion made hatchets and they had lousy finish and obvious look of casted heads. When it comes to bigger size Marion heads some of them look like they had quite decent finish, Much heavier fireman axes have that casted head look finish, Maybe not all Marion heads were madeWere those cast heads? I have a TT Michigan that I’ve been comparing it to and I’m almost convinced that is what I have here!my instinct says TT because it sure looks like a TT Michigan, but for some reason Mann keeps popping into my head .
CnS, it could be that this isn’t the original haft, but, I have the feeling it is. Gonna look into the Marion Matowoc brand.https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/marion-tool-co-alloy-crafcoite-single-3771579573

I found this beauty online (this is not my photo/axe). It appears to match the axe head I have questions about. Now to check the rarity! Thanks for the feedback, everyone!CnS, it could be that this isn’t the original haft, but, I have the feeling it is. Gonna look into the Marion Matowoc brand.
After looking and researching the “p”, I believe this is a Marion.https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/marion-tool-co-alloy-crafcoite-single-3771579573

from crafcoite alloy
Let's hope, one day I will run into Boy's or full size Marion axe and will be able to examine how it was produced. If a cast axe were ground on every surface then you'd never know it was cast.
The Marion Crafcoite products I've seen have that yellow-white paint on the hafts, sometimes with red on the palm swell.
The boy’s axe I have has steel in it that I would compare to being the same quality as a couple of my Kelly/TT. I am unfamiliar with the crafcoite steel and how it’s produced. The Marion I believe to possess seems to have been made with more detail (and a different process than the crafcoite examples you all are referring to). I can shoot more exact photos if any of you would like. Btw, I found very small traces of light blue paint on the head. I may be able to capture them with a photo but not sure.Let's hope, one day I will run into Boy's or full size Marion axe and will be able to examine how it was produced.
Do you know the date of production on the half hatchet? ThanksBut anyone who works in the woods paints their handles a bright color.
My Crafcoite hatchets each show definite cast surfaces though on the camp hatchet they've almost all been hit with a grinder.

Does that scout axe have an undersized eye? I ask because I have came across similar looking hatchets with painted hafts and smaller than normal eyes but I'm not sure if they are Marions or maybe a cheap import. But anyone who works in the woods paints their handles a bright color.
