Just picked up this two blade Scagel by master smith P.J. Tomes in a trade with a goofy doofus in Texas.

The knife is 4" closed and weighs a whopping, pocket filling 5 oz.

The blades are forged 52100 (just about my favorite steel) and the scales are nicely figured elk antler.

Truly a great knife with a lot of "character".

P.J. is one of the notable makers out there bringing new life to classic Scagel knife designs.

This one carries nicely in the (back) pocket.

That's one Hunka, Hunka beautiful big knife there Blues!!
Thanks for the tour!!

Thanks, Charlie.

You can see P.J.'s attention to detail in this pic showing an original Scagel side by side with one of his own:

P.J. has also made some nice Scagel fixed blades. I think there's even one where he made the handle to an actual Scagel blade.

Scagel, P.J. and Rob, a classic trio in my book. Good score, Elliott.

If I remember correctly, I believe I sold Rob a Tomes Scagel straight knife a few years back that was the first knife that Rob bought via bladeforums. (Guess it didn't keep him from coming back. :p)

...and here she is, though I haven't seen her in a few years...

I'm not sure where that one went. I hope she is happy wherever she may be.
Her replacement is a little more petite.

Beautiful Scagel style Tomes, Elliott. Ya' done good my friend:

1. Great traditional knife design.
2. One of the top makers.
3. Elk and 52100
4. Tradin' with the Honorable Bladebrother Goofimus Doofimus.

Does it get any better?

Not in my book.

Well, Ford, as you already know, this trade had you written all over it.

And you're absolutely right, we're very fortunate to be able to trade with friends, not just others interested in knives.

Viva! Ro-Pop Blue Meat, Inc.!!!

That is one to hold onto Blues.
Keep it in your front pocket ;)

I dunno, Ebb. I'd hate to be hounded by all those Cialis guys wanting to know my secret! :p

52100 & Tomes:thumbup::thumbup: gotta be happy with that.
Blues- I'm sure you'll get lots of use out of it.
Thanks for sharing.
Mitch

Hey Rob, that Paul Long sheath is just striking. His work is so nicely detailed. What are some specs on that knife, and what is the inlay on the sheath?

His sheathes are nice. If I wasn't so reluctant to send my knives out, I'd be tempted to have one made for this folder.

Vince and Rob showed me the Paul Long light. He's a great guy to talk to, turns the sheaths around quickly, and does bang up work.

Hmmm...folder + sheath...are we talking knife purse here??

Are we moving towards "Manbags" ??? :p

I think there's a reason it's called a pocket knife so I guess I'll just keep on sitting on it and letting that elk antler put a nice rectangular dent in my butt.
(In truth, it's surprisingly comfortable for such a stout knife.)

Knife is forged 52100 with leather and stag handle. Overall it is a tad under 7 1/2 inches. Blade is about 3 1/4. It's a favorite of mine. I think I got it from AG Russell years ago when the "Cutting Edge" was a print catalog.

The inlay on the sheath is alligator. All Paul's "purses" come standard with a deer skin lining. Paul only lives about 25 or so miles from me so when we mail things back and forth they are sometimes delivered the next day. I once got a little Bob Dozier from Arizona Custom Knives. I got it on a Thursday and took it straight to the post office. Paul got it the next day and it turns out he had a sheath for that exact model already made. Mailed it back to me on that Friday. So two days after I got the Dozier I had a custom sheath for it. :D He makes a great purse and they also prevent "butt dent".

Thanks, Rob. That's a nice blade & leather combo 4-sure.

"Butt dent"...now that's just plain funny. I've heard of "plumbers butt", and "grundundies w/ skidmarks", but now I have to worry about preventing "butt dent"...or not worry. :D

Here's a quick shot I took of a few of my favorite folder purses. The pink silk lacy ones are at the dry cleaners. ;):
