P-Mil. discontinued?

It's in the 2008 catalog, no? Thought I saw it in there. Check the Spyderco website.

Rumors fly. I'm gonna call-him on this one! Time for a new dealer is right. Thanks.

Spikedog---Give me details!!! If you have em.
I remember a thread in the Spyderco forum about 6 months ago. Sal asked for desired features and improvments to the existing Para. I believe he said a new model was in the works.

Give the forum a search, I'll bet it will turn up.

It's entirely possible that Spyderco is currently not making any new ones while they gear up for all the new models. They might not be available right away, but they certainly aren't discontinued. Maybe that was the confusion?

I'd be pissed if it were discontinued.....but a new lock might not be too bad, though i do love my compression

Regarding any successor to the Para Military - new models have a gestation period of several years.

IIRC discussion suggested that the Military will probably be upgraded first, perhaps with a new locking mechanism called the stop lock. (Spyderco have it patented, do a patent search for more info.).

I'd say the Para Military will be around for a few years yet.

The ball lock is much stronger then the comp. lock. I've been carrying a Dodo every day since they first came out, it i flicked opened many times daily, lots of times just for the heck of it. My Dodo has seen hard use for years and the lock up is still positive, zero blade play. I doubt that a comp. lock would hold up as well.

WHAT!?!?! The current compression lock is awesome!! No need to change that baby!:)

I agree the ball lock is great, but I love the compression lock on my Para. That lock is pure genius, it just needs a slightly stronger detent.

compression locks hold up quite well when compared to other locks, but that ball lock is something else:thumbup:

The current Para Military has not been discontinued, it is in current production.

There is a new Para Military in the works, but it's still in R&D.

Hope this helps!
