I recently purchased a yellow handle, plain edge Pacific Salt from an online dealer and noticed the jimping on the spine of the blade/thumb rest is different from the pics I have seen online. What I was expecting was:

Above is a link to Buzzbait's review.

But the jimping looks more like this:

I was just wondering if this is the newest version of the Pac. Salt or if the jimping varies on this model.

Thank you,
Jason

Your first link just throws up a Google error for me. The second one shows the latest version of the jimping.

yablanowitz,

Thank you for the reply. I fixed the link. In post #11 of Buzzbait's review, the jimping is shown.

The pictures in the first link show the sawtooth jimping that my Pacific Salt has. The date code on mine is AG, and it came in the gray box, so I am reasonably certain it is an older style of jimping.

I am not sure that I am right, but I am under the impression that the yellow PE knives have the sawtooth jimping and the others have the finer jimping.

I have seen a few other yellow PE PS's and they seem to all be the same.

My guess on that would be slow sales, so you are still seeing old stock from before the jimping change. I could be wrong, though.

Exactly. PE Salts (of any variety) don't sell nearly as well as SE, so dealers are more likely to have old stock in PE.
