Pacific Crest Trail thru-hike this summer

Thanks as always for the kind words and for checking out the thread, folks! Jessie (now Swipe) and I just got into our friend's place in Tahoe. We just showered and coffeed, and now we're off to Reno for Cabela's, REI, and all-you-can-eat sushi. :) We'll be spending a few days off here, so I can sort and post the latest pics tomorrow without the usual 60-minute countdown at a public library.

the only thing i would ask more in this thread are more pictures... There could never be enough of them.
:D Be careful what you wish for! :p The longest part of doing the updates is wading through gigs of pics trying to find the right ones for this thread.

do you have a date when you are going to be near the bridge of the gods? that is near the end of the oregon section. great thread.
Yup; keep us posted, we're just across the Bridge of the Gods...

Hey Boomstick and 8! At this point, my best guess for BotG is 9/2 or 9/3. We're out of the major snow and should start to make up time in NorCal. It would be great to get together when we get up there, especially if we can access a shower! :D

You guys make an amazing journey even better-- you share it! I agree with Sasha, we could never get enough pictures.

Oh! pictures- of course Lora loves the pics of the Shadow Knife and will plaster them on the website somewhere.

I have never been as high as you are right now! : )

on the knife, I am glad it is holding up as a good companion. thanks for the review!
be safe,
eddie
Thanks Eddie! I've got a bunch more pics of the IX -- I'll email you the full-resolution originals tomorrow. Wait 'til you see the self-surgery shot... :D

Very nice pics, tradja. I'm jealous and will have to make due with the Half Dome trail in a couple weeks. Is that a trail beard I spy? :D
Have a great time of Half Dome! No, I'm not doing a beard this time -- after I got struck by lightning, there are light/sparse patches now, and it was always scruffy anyway. The bearded individual in most of the recent pics is our buddy Sneezes that we hiked from Kennedy Meadows to VVR with.

awesome pics as usual John... and once again, i am totally jealous... looking forward to more...:)

safe travels..
Thanks Mike! :) We'll be back through Santa Cruz in mid-October to pick up our Subaru. Hopefully we can get together.

Wow!

nice shots, you guys are making some great progress (especially considering conditions)- I guess 12-13 hours of hiking will do that! :)
Thanks! Now that we're out of the major snow, we have scaled back our day a bit -- we're usually on the trail by 8:30pm or so, and call it a day by 7:30pm or 8pm. We're still doing 20-23 miles/day, but with much less effort.

The stream crossings must be really fun right now.

And BTW, the 14,496' elevation for Whitney was done with antiquated technology. The current accepted number is 14,508' (the highest point is about three feet above the triangulation station marker that is officially at 14,505').
Thanks! I didn't want to claim it if I wasn't sure. :) Eddie, the Model IX was at 14508ft!

I just went through tahoe today, doing my runs back and forth for the move to nevada. Nice weather right now!
...and plenty of mosquitoes! How is the move coming along? Swipe is really looking forward to the LBK in WA -- she is really impressed with the leatherwork and the micarta work.

very cool John.. glad to hear all is going well.. i look forwrd to more pics... it would also be cool to get together again, when you folks are in S.C...:)

take care.. enjoy Cabela's and REI...:D

Oh Lordy!
Hope it all turned out for the good!

Glad you are out of the main snow........it's 100 in the shade in sunny South Carolina! we'd welcome a snowflake or two.........

Got behind on this thread and just caught up....awesome story and great pics. You two are in inspiration.
