Hey guys, I’ve had my pacific for a while and it is my “Go To” on my kit. I just bought another NIB and and wanted to know the difference on generations, if any. My original has a lighter pewter finish and the marcata is darker and smoother . The spec ops sheath is ACU and has a super tight fit in the plastic mold that is screwed in to the rig.

My New one which has all the paperwork came in a multicam spec ops sheath that has the kydex plastic mold Velcro'ed in and has zero retention. It came with a darker finish and a grittier, lighter marcata handle . It also has “Idaho made” stamped on it. Which my older one does not. Both are extremely BAD ASS and I love them. Any thoughts???

Micarta will have variations due to the materials used in its fabrication. That will result in different colors and may affect the surface texture, but CRK may have changed the machining process to get a rougher/grippier surface. Micarta will darken over time with use.

The original Pacific had physical vapor deposition, PVD, finish on the blade. The new Pacific (and Green Beret) use KG Gun Kote. These are two very different coatings but should result in similar performance. I prefer PVD but it’s a higher cost process compared to Gun Kote. They definitely have a different appearance and feel to them.

I also prefer the leather cases sold by Chris Reeve, but they cost a bunch. While not as tactical as the Spec Ops ones included, they are not as bulky. Chris Reeve probably buys them, with their name added, but otherwise takes the Spec Ops versions as they change as opposed to having them made to spec.

I appreciate the reply sir, I was thinking the same thing as far as the handle / Micarta goes. I do like the PVD also and it is a hair smoother. I’ll keep the new one in the box and my original on the kit belt. Thanks again
