pacific salt

I got a yellow PE Pacific Salt in 2009, and it became one of my favorite knives. Later I got a SE version, but I still favor the Pacific in PE. Many of the other Salts I prefer in SE, like the Tasman, etc. I love the Salts, and they've become my most-used Spydies. They are truly no-fuss knives.

At some point, I'm planning to get a black-handled PE Pacific with the new torx construction.

I love my Salt! Use it for all the usual tasks of an EDC, but also run it on my wet suit when I sail. Slides between my leg and the wet suit (I have one of the shorty ones) and doesn't interfere in the least. Takes a wicked edge, has great ergos, and lots of handle to work with (I have big hands) Enjoy the blade!

I bought a PE Pacific Salt in black/black a couple of years back when I first started getting into Spydercos. A while later, funds got tight and I sold it as I wasn't really feeling the love. Then the customs regulations in Australia changed and it became illegal to import one handed openers. Suddenly I wanted to get one back but there were just none to be had. Added to that, I was being fussy as I really wanted the yellow serrated version this time.

Then a couple of months back, just when I had pretty much given up all hope, I walked into a gun shop while on holiday and there was a brand new serrated yellow Pacific Salt in the knife cabinet. I couldn't get the wallet out fast enough. :)

I picked up a pacific salt with the spyder edge last week for a great deal on Amazon for $58 shipped.

I used it to cut bait for fishing this weekend and it's an absolutely amazing knife. I felt too much like a pussy to use my new serrated Police G10 so I picked up this pacific salt to be my "user" knife since I don't feel as bad using a cheaper knife. I love the fact that I can get it dirty and wet without worrying about rust developing. Cant ask for more in a fishing knife. Now I am thinking of picking up another one in plain edge.

How does the black blade hold up to wear?

It mars pretty easy if you are cutting anything like cardboard, but the coating does not come off like say a Cold Steel. Basically it just knocks the sheen off and shows ware, but I like knives with character, it shows they are used.

Well, I just got my Salt1 from Knifecenter! The PERFECT EDC. Thank you Tom!
This one is going to go everywhere with me.

Looks happy.^
I like how the Salts come now with the Torx fateners. :)

I believe it has a "D" profile pivot pin (the type with a flatted side) on the non-torx head side to keep it from turning as you adjust the pivot screw. The problem is that FRN is not strong enough to prevent stripping/rounding out the hole if a thread-locking compound is used. This happened on my Dragonfly, and I suspect it would happen on the Salt models, or any model that uses D profile fasteners in unlined FRN handles. Defeats the purpose of having adjustable fasteners in the first place. There should be torx heads on both sides in my opinion.

My salt 1 came in the other day and I really like it. The size is perfect and its so light I forget its with me.
I am glad I went with the SE, the blade is so gnarly I'm just loving it.
