Pack a Max Fatboy Jumbo?

Anyone willing to add more. I'm itching for ideas for packing my Jumbo but I'm not the most creative thinker.

Thanks in advance!

Ive EDCd a Jumbo for more than a year now... In the beginning I had a lot more gear stuffed in it, nowadays not so much... The bag and its contents have kinda "evolved" to suit my needs. Dunno if this of any use (its pretty "urban" setup), but I have time to kill at the moment, so here's what's in it:

jumbo1.jpg

Overall... I keep a 0,5L (16oz) waterbottle in the bottle pouch. A 1L (32oz) bottle would fit in nicely, but due to the weight I prefer a smaller one (in winter-time anway). I have a simple carabiner-type of "lock" in the concealed weapon -pocket, since I keep my wallet in it... just to make pick-pocketing that much more difficult. I dont usually keep it "locked", but when I visit a bigger city, or a crowded public event, its a nice feature. I attached reflective clips to the zippers for better visibility.

jumbo2.jpg

Front and side pockets... in the front pocket I have a pocket calendar, a pen, and a small flat notebook. Ive noticed that usually when I need to make notes about something, I have a phone in my other hand, so, easy access is convenient.

The side pocket has a leatherman charge (theres a space pen and a thin lighter in LM the pouch also), some mints, a small prybar (usually not, but I needed it a couple of days ago, and forgot about it), and a couple of permanent markers.

Edit: in summer-time I usually have a flashlight in the side pouch also... during winter I have a flashligh in my pocket anyway, so no need to have one in my bag.

jumbo3.jpg

Top-pouch, from left to right: 12 eurs of coins taped (Im ALWAYS out of coins when Im in a hurry and the only parking space I can find is chargeable) , a lighter, a pack of tissue, and one of the most usefull items in the bag: a parachute silk shopping bag (made by ticket to the moon). Again, easy access; I dont want to start digging up the bag when Im at the register, or when a soda bottle explodes in my car (happened once) or stuff like that :D

jumbo4.jpg

Main front pouch: I used to have a lot more stuff in this pouch... but, if this pouch has a lot of stuff in it, the bag will be significantly thicker and bulkier. So, now I only have a few items in it; a mini-USB cable (fits my cell phone and my camera), a müsli bar, a USB flash drive, and some paracord apparently (didnt know that was there). Sometimes if needed I also keep my cell phone recharger and my headphones in this pouch.

jumbo5.jpg

The "concealed weapon" pouch usually has only my wallet in it. Again, easy access. Theres a lot more room in this pouch, and thats the way I like it: if I need to carry around papers, letters etc I keep them in this pouch.

The main pouch
From top left corner clockwise: a small rain poncho, a road map (yeah I get lost a lot), some duct tape (of course!), sunglasses, a FAK -kinda pouch, a small deodorant, and two small books (Wiseman's Survival Guide, and Thoreaus "Walking"). The "Survival guide" isnt there for the obvious reason; I doubt I'll ever have to read it in an emergency... Its just a really interesting little book, and whenever Im waiting for something or simply bored, I have stuff to read... like, oh, I dunno, waiting for my gf when shes shopping for a new shirt :D. No but really, stuff to pass the time when needed is important to me.

About the FAK, I have some emergency medical stuff in it, like a snake bite kit, an emergency gauze, a space blanket, latex gloves, CPR mask, all sorts of medicines, but theres also stuff like a few small shampoos, caffeine pills, a small (signal) mirror etc. Basically, stuff that keeps me looking/smelling like a human if I have to (or want to) spend my night somewhere else than at my home. Convenient, since some of my friends live a hundred miles away, and I dont always like to plan ahead.

So, this is the setup at the moment. My "office setup" had a lot more IT-stuff, and a bigger calendar etc... When on vacation, I of course replace the map with a local one, localize the FAK, replace the books with some tourist info etc. The Jumbo is a perfect bag as a hand luggage for an airplane, and in that case: no LM, prybar or spray deodorants etc. The main principle is always the same though; easy access stuff to the outer pouches, valuable stuff (like the wallet) to a "hard to pick-pocket" pouch, and the rest of the stuff to the main pouch.

Hope this helps :D

I hate this thread. I really do. I've successfully resisted the urge to buy anything by Maxpedition for several years by deluding myself into thinking that they're "too expensive" and that the versipacks are "man bags". The delsusion has worked well up until now. Now seeing how people has kitted theirs out, the thing looks perfect for dayhike setups. Just the right amount of space so you don't wind up carrying too much junk, and divided just perfectly so you don't have to search around for anything.

Thanks jerks!

Just got back from a Winter training week and my first serious run with the versipack jumbo....

OMLron!............. F'n love it!.... the webbing strap on the bottom blew out... so I will have to address that.... but it was no biggie.

Now that I've tried their stuff I have a hard time NOT buying Maxpedition. :D
Welcome to the club...it only goes downhill from here!;)

guess i should'nt post up new pics of my woods walking Jumbo kit then......:p

Please do. :D

The way Maxped's stuff is made is close to bulletproof.

Magnussen,

I'd love to see how you have yours loaded if it's not too much trouble. Also, I'd like to see what damage was done to it. The teaser pic you showed of your Jumbo looks like it's set up VERY well.

Thanks.

I set this up so I could malice clip all the pouches in the main pocket to the strap, like a bandoleer, in the event that i needed lots of main pocket space.
EDIT: forgot to add, top pocket is for compass, Ermerson CQC11 Utcom folder, keys

maxped jumbo slung over the shoulder, minus the HSGI clip pouches, didnt use them that day. Also shown a manfrotto tripod slung thru the strap. For height references, i stand 5' 10" 190 lbs (10% BF). *note the easy to spot red zipper pull for the FAK pocket. Invaluable for sending your hiking buddies to your kit to get the FAK......"its in the red zipper pocket!"

Very nice. Thanks much for sharing.

Hopefully this will inspire others to add their pics too as it seems that the Jumbo is a very popular bag.

Ok. I give up. My EOD bag man purse, as manly as it is, will never be the day bag that Maxpedition Jumbo is. At least Amazon had the khaki ones on sale. Good lord, if I keep reading this darned forum, I'll stop carrying my RC-4, Bravo-1, and Scrap Yards, and get some trendy custom made "Bushcraft" knife!
