them bucks sharp?
Jeff

Been doing the final loading yesterday and today. Heading out tomorrow for a list of "DO's " Dad has for me.

The 3/4 ton long bed is about 3/4 full of firewood for Mom and Dad. The trailer is hooked up with the two 4 wheelers. Totally lost count of the Bucks I have tossed in the box and back pack.

Picked up a couple of old 121's and have one shaving. Want to see how it does trimming out the backstrap. Mainly looking to speed that part up some.

Even grabbed another 805 S30V Signature Series on the cheap off th ebay to give it a try. Can't believe you guys let me get it so cheap. About half what I gave for the other two. Still can't believe I am going to used a limited edition knife to process deer.

Only knife left to toss in is a Swamp Rat Battle Rat that I rigged the kydex sheath to bolt on the rack of the 4 wheeler. I can just see me a 61 year old out there swinging that thing clearing a path. I think I will let son in law go first and swing it.

I got all the knives, now if I just don't go off and leave the guns... lol.... Oh,, and the camera...

Anyone besides me ready to head out?

Anyone besides me ready to head out?

PR, I volunteered for the hunter sight-in:yawn: at my gun club Sunday.

There were three diffent groups with folks headed down your way this weekend, sighting in their rifles. One's relatives own land north and west of San Antoino, think he said the area was called Eldridge Hills???

Another was going on an outfitters ranch and talked about all the exotics they could take because the owner wanted only the whitetail and the exotics were overtaking the range.

Impressive bag limits for both deer and turkey...can see why you might need several dozen knives:eek: :D .

Good luck and stay safe. Preston

don't know Eldridge Hills. Sounds like someones name for their Ranch. I have hunted all over that part of Texas and know most all of the little towns and best eating places. LOL.... Our place is pretty much due North of SA 120 mi or so, nearly right on I-10. Would like to know where the place is that is trying to get rid of the exotics. I want to import some up to my place one of these days. Those ranchers usually charge at least $250 a head to shoot an exotic.

Yeah,,, we too have some sighting in to do before Saturday. Loaned the 270 to a nephew last season and then later on I missed one. Found it shooting 7 inches off. I have procrastinated all summer about tuning it up. Is what I get for loaning a rifle out. Will loan near anything but my guns and chainsaw..

We can take 5 whitetail each this season. We never do. We do stock up Mom and Dads freezers tho. Mom cooks for all of us. She does not tell when she is going to cook a mess of venison. tho.... has these friends that will suddenly drop in.. lol...

Larry, I'm sorry, have no idea where that ranch is located...he did say that last year they rounded up 2500 head of exotics, but can't remember what he said they did with them. I don't know his name or how to finded him, we have over eight hundred members, members didn't have to sign a release. Sorry, Preston

2500 head of exotics....WOW!!! Nearly has to be somewhere around the YO where they have started breaking it up into smaller ranches. Far as I know they had the largest populations of exotics in the state.

I will check the auction barns when I get out there and see if any exotics are showing up for sale. We have been seeing some Axis about 3 miles from our place, but haven't moved up to our hill yet. Exotics may be hunted year round as they are not a Texas wild game animal. Would love to import some Eastern turkey and try and increase the size of the native Rio Grande. If we get one that weighs 25 pounds it is considered big. My best so far is 23. Daughters and Grand daughters goal this year is turkey.

thanks for the info Preston!!!

I have no freakin' idea what the hell you guys are talkin' about.

Sorry Goose,,,, I guess it is a hunter thing...

Many Many years ago large ranches started importing different species of deer for the hunting aspect. Some are Axis, Black Buck Antelope, I think Red Buck and maybe some sheep/rams.

Called them exotics compared to the norm white tail, black tail and mule deer.

Over time, these various critters reproduced well and fast. Many escaped the high fences initially designed to hold them, or the ranchers had so many over grazing their ranches they would just turn them out. Leave a gate open or not repair a fence. Idea was to let hunters pay to hunt them, as they still do, but some places just have too many.

There are a lot of these now roaming wild around the Texas Hill Country and are fair game. The Axis are specially good eating.

The YO at one time was as large or larger than the King Ranch. For some reason they are breaking it up now, into smaller ranches. I believe it was one of the first to import various deer... Some of these ranchers have Zebra for some strange reason... No,,don't think any one hunts them.

hell i have not been hunting sence some a wipes went to the owner of 900 acers i had leased east of weatherford tx and offered him a lowsy 200 more to have his famly only deal and excluded me even before season was over!!!

and ii have hinted to my father in law that i would like to go were he goes in wv here but to no availe!!!!
and here i put up a heavy hanging skining rig and bult a 6x6 platform for his bline even !!! and hints jest role off

all i have are two smoke poles a 50 and a 58 cal and a 20 gage for a snake gun,,,, things will be dif when i get to florida,,, will have access to a mil base that is open to mil active and retired and dependents .... and it is only 2 hrs away ... only thing is no blines or platforms,,, and no feeders,,,,
hunt the old fashon way stock them ....

I really like shooting my smoke pole, Dave. Nothing else quite like it. I have a 50 cal. TC Renegade that I built from a kit. Now that is cool and it is a lefty to boot. The best thing about it is that the gun registry people (in Canada you are supposed to register you guns. GD Liberals) don’t even want to know. It started out as a kit and it is black powder so they don’t even think of it as a gun. Maybe I should build myself a black powder shot gun and a squirrel gun. That would get me off their radar.

Sounds like you are ready to go Pack Rat.I have my 110,119,103
and vanguard ready to go.We will leave Friday morning and head to London.
So shoot straight and have a good hunt.

I get to go Saturday if everything goes ok.
Not far , below Tawakoni Dam on 2000 acs.of East Texas bottom land on the Sabine River.Big deer, turkeys(spring only),hogs.I'm takin' my Hartsook S30V,BG42 110,300 Weatherby....sometimes I have a 400 + yard shot in a couple of hay fields, mostly 35 to 50 yard shooting in "HEAVY" timber.
The owner found a 197 green score non typical buck that dogs, coyotes or mountain had killed and partially eaten last week.

I don'i know what wtb means , but I have been known to make some.
Sending it to Canada might be hard I don't know.
;)

btw=by the way
yes i imagine if customs seen it they would have a few complaints
i dont hunt but a friend a few years ago got an old buck so he took it to a butcher for sausage making and they had some pepperoni sticks made and those things were good;)

No need to apologize Larry...I figured it was a huntin' thang...or that you were taking writing lessons from Dave ;) ...one or the other.

Thanks for the background. Cool to learn stuff here.
