Pack ratting. Too much stuff

LOL, yep, another pack rat right here.
I don't understand it, I must have a hole in the space-time continuum in my house or something. I give all kinds of old clothes and stuff to the Salvation Army. I've been donating outdoor gear to kids at church that can't afford anything. Been throwing out junk , bags and bags of it.

Yet, I haven't noticed a decrease in the volume occupied by "stuff" in my house at all.

Actually yes. She cooks pretty good, and hand sews really nice quilts,

...and carries two guns and has an ornery father that makes knives.
Can you say "perfect woman"?

I also moved recently, and took the opportunity to get rid of a ton of stuff. Right now, I have two display cabinets for my knife collection, and they are pretty much full. My outdoors gear is kept in a small closet, and it's pretty much full as well. If I want to get new stuff, I'm going to have to get rid of something.

The real problem for me is the tendency for piles of documents to multiply like rabbits when I'm not looking (an occupational hazard). In my new place, I have declared war on loose papers - if it doesn't fit into a filing cabinet or binder, it doesn't get printed!

All the best,

- Mike

I collect to much stuff, but not to bad. My GF on the other hand has boxes of sheite from the 4th grade. She is 52.

I've been married for 20 years and we have moved more than 15 times. WE ARE RUTHLESS! "Get rid of it!", is a constant refrain here. Now we've moved on to "We're just going to get rid of it!"

The really depressing thing is that at some point you parted with cash for each one of those items that is choking the life out of your life. You must cure the disease and get your "gottahavit" fixed.

All that said I'm bad when it comes to gear. I try not to accumulate gear that I won't use but it is difficult. I have had a longstanding policy that if someone gives me a knife (happens more often than anyone has a right to) that I have to give away a knife. Most of the time I sell my used gear to former students and reinvest the money into new gear for the course.

I'm getting ready to move back to Brazil in a few months and need to get on top of the situation. I came back with one suitcase full of clothes and another full of gear. I think we could fill a container with the crap we've accumulated since August. Mac

Its bad... I've got crates of blades, packs, tarps, tents, bags, etc.. I could open a store or three.. I keep saying that I'm gonna part with some of it, but I never seem to get around to it...

That's me as well:o I've got a move coming up in Nov/Dec...I'm not looking foward to it. I have waay too much military gear, camping gear, knives, guns, ammo...it's going to be a painful one:grumpy: There will be a big garage sale or a long list on the Exchange eventually:D

Due to lack of money I'm generally not bad with buying gear I don't need, but I still seem to accumulate a lot of crap. Need to go through my junk here soon again....
As much as I like gear, having only a small amount of stuff that you know you use is a great feeling.

Someone should organize a Summer get together which not only involves some outdoor activities but also involves a swap meet or car boot sale. Any stuff left over could always be given to a trusted individual or two to pass on to a suitable youth organization or charity.

When I was younger they did this with the Scouts in my area. Raised a lot of cash and allowed many kids to buy gear at super cheap prices.

RoyalM- I like that idea!

AND- I would be more than happy to travel to Scotland to participate! :D;)

I collect stuff...but it's all GOOD stuff that would be IMPOSSIBLE for me to part with. Kind of. Most of the time. Unless it's just too cool to get rid of. Or might be useful for some unknown task years later.

Ok, so I hoard stuff...so what? :D
