I've noticed some folks on the forums EDC consists of alot more gadgets and gear than the others.for instance i've seen people who when they list ther EDC it looks more like an inventory list for a surplus store and others carry the bare essentials. What do you carry and why?
Here's Mine

Knife: Microtech LCC Dual Action.
Reason: Very high quality to start with very clean and custom look and easy to customize and i love the blade geometry i've done some work to mine including. Buffing Ti bolsters/Mirror polished blade/replaced micarta handle slabs with mother of pearl and anodized the liners blue yesterday/some light filework to come soon

Watch: Panerai Luminor Marina
Reason: VERY VERY high quality and workmanship, very easy to read, LARGE(but at the same time heavy) and never needs a battery. they also look very unique

Hand Gun: Heckler and Koch USP9
Reason: come on Its an HK they are the best handgun made in my opinion. i trust my life to it every time i leave the house
Light: Surefire E2
Reason: small BRIGHT lightweight and conveniant

Cellphone: Motorola Timeport startac
Reason: light small and grey

2 way pager: Motorola Timeport p35
Reason: on the go email, built in Schedule and other organizer functions matches the cellphone

and the usual keys/wallet/money clip and pockt lint

I like to keep things light and trim nothing i won't use daily and living in the city i never too far from a store to buy something i might need in a pinch. how about u guys

I plan to add either a 3 or 4 band HT a soon as I get my ham license

I live in a city (Milano) and pack the following:

- Swiss army knife, one with the basic features and small pliers

- Jason Jakcs damascus liner lock folder (I NEVER use the victorinox blade for anything beyond slicing letters open. No lock in the blade = sooner or later bad injury) It's really beautiful, I like it a lot, especially as it's a present from my wife :p

- Palm 105 palm computer (quite basic, but if I need more I have a real portable PC)

- Nokia 7110 cell phone (Always bought Nokia, never had a problem, great user interface)

- Key Defender (pepper spray)

- E1 Executive Surefire torch (really compact and gives out a LOT of light)

- Various documents: id cards, driving licence and so on.

When travelling I may add a victorinox multitool and if camping a heavy folder from Fox of Maniago for camp work.
I have a great Cold Steel Outdoorsman but rely on the folder since big fixed blade knives tend to get people edgy around here...

Sheesh. Are we talking on-duty, or just a walk through the woods to granny's house? I don't carry that much stuff on a backpacking trip for a week in the wilderness. Car keys, some spare change, three or four knives, I'm good to go. ;)

Every day carry around town: CRK Large Sebenza, wallet, comb, car keys, Nokia cell phone (since 9/11). In a bad neighborhood, I add a Sig/Sauer P228 in a waist band holster, or a S&W Model 66, three inch barrel with one speed loader in a concealed pouch fanny pack.

For day walks in the woods: Busse Basic #7 or Dozier Pro Guide, CRK Large Sebenza, wallet, comb, Nokia cell phone, S&W Model 629, four inch 44 mag in a Jackass Leather shoulder rig with two drop pouches under the arm on the weak side. In practice I've never needed more than this.

:)

I can't belive the amount of knives you guys carry with all your other stuff. A SERE 2K, a CCO lt wt .45acp one extra mag in my left coat pocket. What do you guys all do with the knives you carry at once? I mean several knives. Bit of over kill isn't it?

Umm. Wow. I look at everyone's profiles when things are slow, and I can't figure out what some of you guys are doing toting guns. Not meant as a judgement...

I always carry cash in a money clip
I.D. and a couple of cards in a slim leather case
A good chrono (TAG Kirium today)
A small cell phone (wife's StarTac today)
A multi-tool in my briefcase (Juice S2 today)

and a good knife (DDR Apogee today)

Everything rotates, but that's the usual load.

I brought my dad my Sebenza to carry for a while as I've been neglecting it. Left the house with 2 knives in my pocket and felt pretty rediculous actually.

I guess I fall into the "pack light" group.

Everyday around town:
Spyderco Rescue
Wenger Highlander SAK or Victorinox Cadet (but never both)
mini-Bic lighter
chapstick
wallet
keys to car and house
Seiko wristwatch (model V657-9099) nice but replaceable.

That's it really.

Good luck,
Allen.

My list is the every day carry to work. The list used to be shorter, but since 9/11, I wanted a FULL first aid kit. I forgot 3 items in my list - Stanley 9" folding saw, a pair of 4" EMT shears, and a change of undies and socks. I walk over a mile to the train to go to work, and I carry it every day, and I'm a big fat out of shape guy. The car has a similar kit (Not the same, but similar).

BTW That "work" bag doesn't count what I keep in my desk drawer!

I'm walking 3 blocks to work in the city. Knife is a large crkt Kasper (the aluminum handled one; it's so cool) or the big Timberline Wortac; usually just one knife. But I think I need a little one too in the other pocket, more to use around non-knuts, like a Native or something. On my keychain a Newt Livesay Meat-eater, and a little gemsbok horn I got at Blade Show West. It looks like a big talon. And a Photon light. That is all!

Lets see here...

Car keys, with a screwsall(folding screwdriver, neat little thing)
Spyderco military in the needlenose pocket of pants
Cell phone, Qualcomm of some sort
H&K USP .45 compact, inside the waist holster
Handheld GPS(garmin GPS 12), pocket or fanny pack, depending on weather.
Compass, a Romainian(sp?) jeweled movement, trithium needle
Tag Heuer, 2000 model(?), keeps great time

Thats bare bones, outfitted for work, the list gets outta control.

In the Office: Spyderco Wegner Jr plain edge (soon to be replaced by small Sebenza); SAK Soldier or Mooremaker Trapper; White Photon II, Swisstech mini tool and a very cool Ibis Hand Job bottle opener on keychain
HANDJOB.JPG

At Home: Small Buck/Strider spearpoint (BG-42); SAK Ranger w/Blue Photon II attached; sometimes my Leatherman Wave depending on what I'm doing

Camping: Small Buck/Strider spearpoint (BG-42)(might purchase an Al Mar Sere 2K to replace it); Leatherman Wave and Dozier Pro Guide on the belt; Busse Steel Heart E in pack.

Lenny

Oops! Almost forgot; I always have my Fisher Bullet Space Pen in my pocket.

Let's see, my EDC:

Spyderco Chinook (Waistband)

CRKT Carson F4 around neck. (just got and really like this little blade alot)
I have added to the kydex sheath the following:
6 "strike anywhere" matches in a sealed plastic bag inserted in the slot on the back where the removable belt clip goes.
5 feet of extra strong nylon cord wrapped around on belt slot.
1 Maglite Solitare flashlight wrapped to the other side belt slot.

This whole thing will hang around my neck, and doesn't show under my shirt.
isn't to heavy either.
And it is ALWAYS on me.

SAK Highlander on keyring.
LED micro flashlight clipped on my small daypack.

Altoid tin with the following:

1 SAK
2 Maglite Solitare flashlight
3 1 Box "strike anywhere" matches
4 2 trick relight birthday candles/firestarters
5 safety pins 2 large/3small
6 needles 4 assorted sizes
7 10 feet black thread/10 feet white thread
8 10 feet nylon cord
9 4 pieces paper cut to fit tin
10 pencil stub
11 1 vial chlorine bleach
12 1 pre-paid phone card
13 1 20 dollar bill

Cell Phone
Palm Pilot

I don't feel overloaded, and this doesn't even touch teh kit in the car.

I should add
Seiko kinetic wrist watch
Led micro-flashlight clipped to my belt :)

Should I obtain a CC permit I'd carry
S&W 640 in 357 Mag. with a speedloader, loaded with Fiocchi 110 Grns FMJFP (italian law forbids hollowpoints)

or

Springfield 1911A1 stainless 45ACP loaded with hardball

or

Glock 23 loaded with 150 Grns FMJTC

depending on coat and time.

No way could I carry a handgun where I live... Cheese and tulip-country. BTW, I was brought up with a "Guns Are Bad" attitude and that record is still playing the same track in the back of my head. The good thing IS that there's not much gun-related crime over here.

Anyway, if a police-officer would stop me on the sidewalk and ask to empty my pockets, I'd have to hand in ANY knife as well. They're not officially unallowed -even up to a max. of 11 inches, blade & handle- but unofficially: Just say bye-bye to your knife. Automatics would have you arrested as well, though I know of one outdoor-store who carry Benchmade-autos; on full display.

But OK, here's a list of my usual stuff -and it's very, very lightweight compared to most of you..:

One knife -perhaps more as soon as my "knife-itch" really emerges-..; folders only, and only medium-sized because I carry it down my left-front pocket; right-front are my keys and wallet, with all cards -five or so- and always some cash, up to ± $150. On the left wrist is one of my mechanical watches; if I really feel like it there's one on the right too. I always carry full ID-stuff, driving license and car-keys; even though in this crowded country, I only drive a few times per week. No mobile phone! I'm still hanging in against it.
Wonder when I'll "snap"...

...And then there's my spectacles; been needing them since I was three -yes, I got picked on a lot  - but am afraid I couldn't live without them anymore. I'm just not fully dressed without them...

Tom Mayo - You are right about the 9, but the Sig is such a great gun, I can't bring myself to sell it. I much prefer the 44 though, but it's a little bulky in some situations. :)

Well, I guess I always pack heavy, and it's actually heavy too. Today I am carrying:
Spyderco Cricket (as money clip w/throw-down money)
CRKT Classic K.I.S.S. (actual money clip)
Spydercard in wallet
Spyderco Rescue
Strider GB folder
Emerson CQC-7B
Crawford LDC Covert folder
CRKT Carson M-18
CRK Lg. Classic Sebenza (in G2 sheath)
Luminox Stainless Dive watch
SureFire E2 flashlight
Cold Steel Tuff-lite, Photon II, and Arclight LED on keychain
Nokia cell phone
various similiar stuff in bag(flashlight, extra batteries,para-cord, sharpie marker, note pad, etc...... and emergency kit in my truck.

Let's see. I walk 1.5 miles from Telegraph Hill to my office in downtown San Francsico. My typical carry is:

William & Henry Black & Tan Lancet (soon to rotate with Arrow Umfaan)
very small credit card wallet w/ about $60 cash
7 keys on antique "hawk" fob
a couple of quarters
Palm m100
and (1) near 3" blade (Lum Chinese, G-10 Native and soon to be Small Sebenza Classic)

I walk light and live off of the "land" when in the City.

my EDC is as follows

glock 32C and 33 .357SIG (the very very best handguns imho, glock rocks)
kel teck P32

motorola cellphone/pager

emerson commander
buck/strider tanto

watch = rolex GMT2, cuz i like them a lot

and the usual OC, keys etc but i am in LE so........
