Packing Light Versus Packing Heavy

Personally I'm a bodyguard, so I guess I carry a bit heavy too.
But I always have the same things on me regardless of whether I'm working or just going to my university, where I study part-time.

I carry:
Knives: 1 Buck Knight-hawk tanto fixed blade, flat against my back between my pants and shirt tilted to a side so I can drive comfortably.
1 CRKT Bear Claw neck knife, on my neck, obvously.
1 Coldsteel Voyager Tanto folder in my front right pocket.
1 CRKT Urban Shark folding knife as a key chain, becuase of the small size, front left pocket.
1 Gerber Multi-plier pocket tool kit, back right pocket.
And in my wallet I have an old but perfect multi-tool, flat, the size and shape of a credit card. Extremely old(14 years) but perfect cond.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Watch: Just a G-shock for now. I hope soon to buy a Zodiak. Or maybe that cool Luminox Navy Seal dive watch. Or the Rolex Submariner. All of these are favourites among spec ops.

Boots: Hi-tek Magnum.
When at work: Varied electronics communication gear.
When at uni.: Cell phone, Phillips.

My everyday carry (work, play, weddings, funerals, doesn't matter):

1.)SAK Rucksack in O/ST neck rig with mini ferro rod and Innova LED light attached.

2.)either a Spydie CPM-440V Native or Eriksson Mora #1 (will probably add a spydie ocelot to this rotation when it is available) I also occasionally add my CS mini bushman in its fine O/ST sheath with teklok.

3.)Petzl Tikka LED headlamp and extra set of batteries in LC1 pouch

4.)Gerber Multilock Scout with tool kit, medium DMT stone and mini-steel.

5.)Tool-Logic card in wallet

6.)mini bic lighter with approx 10 feet of duct tape wrapped around it.

7.)approx. 25' of 550 paracord

8.)bandanna

9.)magnesium and ferro firestarter (cut in half lengthwise to save bulk) and small metal whistle.

10.)durable and functional clothing and footwear.

The stuff that is with me always:
Strider AR
Benchmade 735S
Wallet with cash, credit cards, ID, etc.
Keys on small biner with white photon 2
Small SAK with red photon 2
Cellphone
Leatherman Supertool

Normally I have a Camillus Mini Talon around my neck, but sometimes I ditch it on weekends.

Weekends and certain days at work I have a Strider WP2 s.o.b.

When I can get away with BDUs I also toss my ever changing mini kit in one of the cargo pockets.

Hope to add a Surefire 8AX soon, carried on the belt daily.

I live on a fairly remote, mostly-rural island.

I usually carry on my person:

1) Spyderco Endura, or Military
2) no-name pocket comb
3) S&W 342PD
4) Surefire E2
5) Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore perpetual/chrono, or something similar.
6) car keys, on caribiner, with turquoise Photon III
7) wallet, with usual contents

And I keep enough stuff in the truck and on the boat to build a small town.:)

i dont know where most of you work and live. im assuming alot of you live in the country.

its very sensible to carry some of the stufff youve mentioned in your car, or when ur out camping, but isnt it just abit of an overkill for city living? especially guns. do you find you need all those things?

i carry my wave when im on long car trips or a hike.

i have this really small crappy multitool as a key chain, thats it.

everything in my wallet i guess

Mike,
That backpack I carry is around NYC - you'll notice no firearm. NYC is a BIG place, and if you've ever gotten stuck in Manhattan, and had to walk to Northeastern Queens (where I live), you'll discover it's something like 12 miles. I've had to make do for at least part of the trip 3 times - Once was a horrid rain storm, once was a blizzard, and once was 9/11 - the only time with nice weather

In the bush or when on duty(Auxilliary RCMP), I'm loaded with full kit & survival gear. But at work or around the house, etc., I carry my keychain w/mini-mag in my left pant pocket, and my Starmate in my right. That's it. No wallet, gun, $$$, phone or first aid kit. It's a simple life up here, with nothing to actually be prepared for.

I pack light.

Office wear on person: Wenger mini-tool chest, Spyderco mini-Dyad(love those two blades!), Wenger Model?? wristwatch, Chapstick, change, wallet with ID, credit cards, cash and two bandaids. Spydie Chinook or CS Tanto in coat pocket. I've never needed much more than that in this environment.

Backpack: Gerber multipliers, Boguszewski 4" Spike, mini maglite, cellphone, daily planner, etc.

Okay, let's start with packing light, everyday:

Keys-left front pocket
Wallet-left rear pocket
Luminox Steel Dive Watch, G-Shok Illuminator, or Rolex Submariner-left wrist
Sprint Cell Phone-right front pocket or overshirt pocket
Asthma inhaler-T shirt pocket or right front pocket
CRKT Crawford/Kasper or Benchmade Darkstar-clipped to right front pocket
CRKT Crawford Point Guard, Emerson CQC-7, or Benchmade 710 Axis lock folder-clipped to left front pocket
Glock23, H&K USP40, or Taurus 617 with Hydrashoks-rear right hip in beltslide holster
Extra mag or speedstrip-front left hip on belt

Packing heavy -- All of the above, plus:
Extra mag/speedstrip pouch-front right hip on belt
Cold Steel Mini Culloden-around neck
Leatherman multitool-left rear hip on belt
Sabre pepper spray-left front pocket

And, for you folks that freak that we're carrying guns -- Have you ever been jumped by a group of guys before? Let it happen to you once, and you might change your mind. Do you go places with people you love? I do. A gun just gives me a little more insurance that I'll be able to keep them safe.
