Packing lists are always fun to Post

I think it (wussy sack) is where some people put their "snivel gear". You know, the stuff that isn't essential for existence survival, but that keeps up spirits and morale. Like tissues, toilet paper, hygiene and shaving kit. Or even non-perishable food stuffs like powdered creamer, salt, pepper, hot sauce...

All those things that helps to keep one in a positive frame of mind, long after SHTF and the smoke cleared. Like when the only thing on the horizon are vultures. :O
Oh and these can also be great barter items after TEOTWAWKI... :)

Dave

Hot sauce isn't essential for survival\existance ?!?! :D

Ahh, I figured there would be some wool there somewhere ! I find the Poly base-layers stink real quick though !!!!

Polypropylene, polyamide and nylon suck for me.... Polyester works well... no stink. Maybe it breaths better or something.

The Wussy Sack is my sleep system. Fleece liner, inside a -5 bag, inside a -15bag, inside a USGI Gore-tex bivy with a closed cell foam ground pad. Very comfy.... if it was a training trip, I would only have a wool blanket.

I apparently missed the mark with my guess... That said, I don't think comfy = wussy. More like comfy = prepared.

I won't bother to post them all but I have packing lists for everything. I have one for the camper, the tent, the tarp, Mardi Gras, day hikes, trips to the beach, etc. Since I started this the trips go a lot smoother.

Rick, i'm happy you enjoyed posting up your list - i like alot of your selections (heck, i carry some of the same things you do). I like packing lists too and use 'em extensively (they're mostly in my head nowadays) - though i'm less inclined to post 'em anymore.

Maybe 6-8 years ago, i used post my different 'set-ups' (depending on the type/duration/season i was climbing/packing) on different mountaineering/backpacking forums i participated. However, too many inexperienced techno gear-heads couldn't get past my experience-driven selections - some of which flew in the face of the ultra-light 'wisdom' of the day. I got tired of trying to explain (from the comforts of home) why light-weight isn't always the best weight (nor is heavy/durable always the best).

It got old so i don't waste my time with 'em anymore.

You're a Mod here so enjoy the discussion and when it becomes irritating, edit as necessary!

Nahw, fmajor007.... it doesn't get irritating. I like the discussions and am comfortable with my gear choices. I went through an ultralight phase, traditional, primitive.... now, I just do a mix of everything and have fun.

I just got back from a Winter trek that started out in rain dropped to -15 that night and went to -28 the next day. On day two, I fell through the ice! This was a good test for cold weather gear and I may change a few things.

good stuff Guys.... Rick, your right these are fun, but it;s just a tease with out pics of your kits.

I still have lists from the 70s for all sorts of trips from winter snowshoeing to long distance cycling!

I've got pics!.... just didn't get a chance to post them before I left.

I'm slowly getting to that phase too. It's strange but before the internet I was happier with my gear choices that were ordered through mail order catalogues. With the net I think I get too much gear overload and spend more time searching for a solution to problems I never had:rolleyes:

Very nice. I am glad to see another pipe smoker on here. I have minimal experience with camping but I have always thought it would be very relaxing to take my pipe along when I do go. I am starting to plan a trip for this summer and pipe and tobacco are already on my pack list.

After I got home from my last trip.... I decided to piece together another ruck. I used a custom made 64 pattern lightweight jungle frame with a Canadian 82 pattern ruck bag. The Canadian bag is shorter but wider than the ALICE allowing my sleepgear to ride completely on the frame. I riged a better hip belt for increased comfort.

here's the custom frame

Comparrison of the ALICE vs Canadian/64 and roughly where the frame sits on both...

Between the hipbelt and higher ride, I bet that's going to be like night and day:thumbup:
