PackRat

How's that mega palm swell working out for you, Joe?

I wish the knife was about 15% larger in all dimensions. But other than that it completely rocks. It's palm-"swell"-tastic.

I like the blade shape just as much. After the first trip to the belt sander for a slight convex it was push cutting paper like a champ.

I just disassembled the Packrat and NO DETENT ...Sorry Ktint :o ;).

J_Curd, I'm and IDIOT and obviously need to learn my Knife Anatomy a bit better :(:o. I was thinking of something totally different when I was thinking detent ...BRAIN VAPOR LOCK !!! Again Sir, You're Correct ;).

You can usually check for a detent just by watching the liner motion as the knife closes (and avoid disassembly).

Thank You Joe  ;) ...I know what to look for now. Take Good Care and Be Safe Always.

When I first held the packrat, I definitely noticed the palm swell. I dunno if it would fit my hand or not, but at the time, I wasn't accustomed to the looks of the handle and blade. Now I'm slowly wanting one..

Cool--is that the paper wheels from Richard sharpening method? How does that work/does it work well? I heard he gets touch-cut sharp edges using that method :eek:

The best I can get with my sharpmaker + freehand strop is an edge that easily slices newspaper like crazy.

This thread is worthless without pics. :D

Preferably some "in hand" picks JW. I wanna see how that rear palm swell fits the hand.

...Or I can wait a couple days for Priority Mail to do its thing :)

I saw someone's PackRat picture next to a Zing just before I placed my order. I almost changed my mind (but I love my new Zing!). That PackRat is sweet looking though. I'd like to see some in hand shots as well!

Sooo.... about those pictures... :D:D:D

What you all have been waiting for.

The Woody doll is not for sale.:D Same thing for the Knives.:p

Thanks for the pics. At first I wasn't big on the looks of this knife, but it's definitely starting to grow on me.

That would be the Gerber Chameleon - discontinued years back.

That one was hard to find. I wanted the Chameleon II. A larger version. When this one came in with the FPR on the blade I wasn't disappointed anymore.

Get one. You won't be disappointed.
If there's a place near you, go handle one. The PackRat feels
great in hand. The blade profile is very useful and the swell at
the end keeps the knife very stable while cutting.
