Hello everyone. If I'm off base here I apologize, but I don't think that I am considering your word is supposed to mean something. I say what I mean, speak plainly, ship quickly, and don't take undue time and change my mind. If I give you my word, its gold.

Pacpal57 opened up communication with me late night about buying 2 knives I had for sale. We had a very polite back and forth in which he responded he would sleep on it and think about a counter offer that was sent to him. Within minutes he started a separate message conversation making me aware that I had another offer(which was actually several) and that he would take the items if still available in the AM. I made the other parties aware that they had been sold and marked the thread SPF to await the payment. I was told in the morning he decided to pass, posted a withdrawn offer, and was given the excuse that he never posted the "ill take it" in my thread so the offer wasn't valid. Seems he thought that saying that was a place holder instead of a commitment.

To be clear..... before I posted this I did 2 things. First, I went and read the rules(flakes are part of the rules). Second, I made him aware that I had done so and was simply contemplating a WSWD thread and was told to do whatever I wanted, that he had good standing here, and no on forces sales on anyone. I'm not attempting to force a sale on anyone, but he made a choice to flake out on his word. We have the freedom to make choices, but not without consequence. His choice was to commit to the knives and back out later.

This is to act as a warning to people who are considering business with Pacpal57. He seems to have very good standing here, and it's quite possible just a slip up. It's still flaking on your word.

I don't know the member in question nor what was or was not posted in the sale thread ... but if someone indeed posted an "I'll take it" ...

yes that should be a commitment to purchase ... if they have questions or counter offers they should privately pm you or contact you outside the thread and make their offer ...

and if you get a buyer to claim they will take it at the full price you asked in your sale thread while someone is trying to get you to accept an offer lower then your asking price ... then they should understand that you will sell to the first "I'll take it in your sale thread ... unless you told them otherwise.

a posted "I'll take it" is a commitment to buy and should not be posted trying to save a place in line until they decide ...

and I agree you shouldn't try to force a sale on anyone ... but they should respect your sale thread enough to not make you lose out on offers to purchase while they waste your time.

I don't know the OP or the "accused". I've had this happen to me from time to time and yes it is annoying but it sometimes caused by miscommunication.

Now, if a potential buyer wants "to sleep on it", I tell them that if I'm made a firm offer while they are sleeping that I will accept that offer and they lose. If they then say they want it, I ask them to go to the thread and post "I'll take it" and pay immediately.

I never put SPF anymore, unless I know the person from past communications or sales. The knife is really only sold, after you receive the funds. People will back out after an "I'll take it", even though it reflects poorly on them. That is why I like to keep any other interested buyers informed, in case the original deal falls through.

I've done business a couple times with the member mentioned and never had any issues. In fact, we once didn't complete a deal that was discussed as well, no hard feelings.

Like it or not, the fact is that deals will fall through sometimes. Is it annoying? Yes. But it is also a fact of life on the Exchange. A deal isn't a deal until money changes hands and both sides (hopefully) deliver on their commitments.

In summary, I'm not saying the OP's displeasure isn't warranted, but I don't think it's fair to indict the good character of the member named based on this. I, and many others, have very positive things to say about him.

I totally agree. Unfortunately the sequence of events here was sleep on it, oh wait there’s another person interested, I’ll take it if still available. I had even sent a response on payment and that I would ship today lol

Oh well..... lesson learned.

Hopefully this can be a learning experience for both of us. I opted not to give it a red negative thread tag(not to be confused with negative feedback, which would not have been aloud per the rules) and my ending to my original post hopefully sent the appropriate message. Unfortunately being told to do whatever I wanted because he had such great feedback gave me the impression he thought he was above reproach.

If a person disappoints you in a business deal, but doesn’t steal anything, it’s really best to just move on to the next best prospect, who will most likely follow through as expected. While it’s sometimes hard to resist not giving them a private scolding, taking it public may not always be appropriate.

I don't know either party.
Saying he'll take them if still available in the morning can be read as a commitment...but my read would be that he wasn't sure enough to just say I'll take them. It's basically a go ahead to sell them if you get a buyer; and he'll take another look (and maybe make an offer) when he thinks about it tomorrow (or whenever).
The OP chose to make sure the items were available in the morning. That was his call, I'm not criticizing it...but, with the wording he provided, I would probably not have done the same.

If I’m off on this one I’ll gladly accept it apologize and move on. This screenshot should shed a bit more light on it.

I think this comes down to you reading his words one way and him thinking something else. His statement was worded rather strangely for a solid commitment from both parties.
Too bad you missed on the other sales, but it happens. Probably best to move on .

Thank you and much appreciation to everyone on keeping this civil.
