Hey,

A little while back you posted some info on a Samoan(?) craftsman in Honolulu who made traditional Polynesian weapons. That post, though, was one of those that got lost during the server troubles. Could you post it again? I'm headed over there Wednesday, and would like to obtain something if possible.

Thanks,
r

Ask Yvsa to relay the message; Maui's not been around much. He has a good job and his life is happy. SNiff. He doesn't need us any more....

I dropped Rob an email but don't know for sure if I have a current address.

I got one of those clubs. You need 2 go to the stadium in Pearl City on a weekend, Saturday is best, and they've got basically a flea markret going there in the parking lot every weekend. You want to look for the only stand that sells the clubs, the guy is Prince Tevaga, a polynesian prince (with the clan tats on the hips to prove it).

That's how I got mine, and a friend got one 2 years later the same way. If Rob's got any more leads, that's even better.

Sorry to have been so scarce :( But like Munk said its for good reasons not because of life's troubles, so I can't complain. I'm working alot but I love the work, and I'm really trying to spend as much time with my family as I can, while still going to Aikido, etc...

I wasn't the one who posted about a particular craftsman in Hawaii..The clubs I saw were museum pieces...and beautiful ones at that!!

Good luck ruel! I'm sure there are some good ones still being made. :)

Thanks all, and Rob&Keith, sorry for the mix-up!

Since that post, I managed to snag a couple Hawaiian weapons, including the one below:

Apart from the clubs, I'm really looking to get one of those ikaika helmets, so I hope the Prince makes those at a price I can afford:

I understand that they're giant hollowed out gourds, and while that may not be the strongest of helmet materials you just can't beat that "space-man" look!

I'm working on that physique too -- got till Wednesday to get there... ;)

heeehe LMAO!

Oh, and you'll get to see an interesting mix of folks there. Samoan, Polynesian, Japanese, American, tourists from all, etc. Great reastaurants, Try Keo's in Waikiki Beach for the best Thai food U can get 'stateside'.

That's the second insistent recommendation I've gotten for that restaurant. But since I have a Thai mother, I already get plenty of that stuff every time I visit home... ;)

You mean they have lots of full-size ikaika? I've seen the little ones for sale online, but I want one to actually wear. This conference gives us the option of wearing Hawaiian clothes instead of suit&tie when making our presentations, and I want to go all out and be the most talked-about speaker there!

Do you remember how much they cost?
