Paid susbscription to trade?

I believe it changed over the weekend.

The site has become more expensive for Spark to run and more funds were needed to pay the bills so a basic membership is required to trade now.

But this is what Spark said the reason was:

"Due to abuse, this forum is now limited to members with Basic or higher paid subscriptions.
Due to widespread abuse by people selling knives through the trade forums, posting new threads to this forum is now limited to members with Basic or higher level paid subscriptions.

I can see this being a problem to be honest. Some people just can't follow rules, this is why we can't have nice things:)

Well, I think it probably was really a two part deal. Given it only requires a basic $10 membership the extra money wouldn't be a huge amount, that was probably more of a factor for the gold and higher memberships. So the main issue may have been rip-off artists but the site costs did go up.
 
It made me mad that people can not follow the rules. I understand why he decided to do this. I was trying to make a trade once and the guy asks if I just want to buy it. Obviously if I am trading it is usually because I do not have cash.
 
Yes, it is correct.
This place needs to stay open, and the basic membership(and others) is a bargain for what you get here.

The price just went up a bit on most memberships, but that is the first price increase in 10 years.
I hope anyone that can will buy a paid membership soon, as I would hate to see this place gone one day.
The Basic is still only $10, and thats not much for the right to trade here.

They'll probably be along soon to move this thread to Tech.

I can't tell you how many times I have offered someone trading something a offer only to find out they really want to sell. I reported the ones that were straight out obvious.
 
I say make the gold membership the lowest one and get rid of the others or the others cant trade or sell. see that will help solve most of the problems.
 
The problem with that is he would risk scaring people off and as you see there is no giant billboard adds here so no income from advertising like many many other forums (a BIG plus for us users) so this site 100% relys on membership dues. $10 is manageable for almost everyone but when you don't have a job and you have a family to feed not everyone can afford $25 just to be able to trade something. I think the way it is now it the best compromise, all the info and knowledge here is free, the only thing you "pay" for is the right to conduct business, be is sales or trading.

I have no issue with the basic membership being required, its well worth the price to no have to wait longer for a page to load cause its loading big flashing adds.

It's already been raised $30.00 for gold now I have no problem paying an extra $10.00 But I can see how some people would way of the world nowadays . Just glad I just reuped
 
In reference to the $10 price. I find it reasonable. Especially considering it's an entire year. There are other sites that you can use for free if it's an issue. You'll likely get more interest here though.

if money is that tight then they don't need to go around and be trading. I am on a fix income and I find the money every year some how. since I can do it then I think they can do it too.

I am with you on that. It was hard on me to renew my memberships a couple weeks ago but I found the cash. My membership is a lot more than a basic but I have to have it to sell my para cord stuff. Even though sales on them is way down I will still pay the membership fee and offer them.
 
Man right as I was going to out something up for trade I see this change!

I think I will just fork over the cash for gold and sell some stuff off to recoup the funds plus some. A little extra cash is never bad when I have an abundance of knives.

Sad to see people abusing the system ruining something for me, though. I won't lie and say I have never considered a sale offer, but I have never taken one. The little extra cash is not worth the rules violation and possible ban associated. It isn't like I can't come up with $30 over the course of a whole year.
 
if they are that cheap they cant afford to pay for a member they why do you trust them in a trade or risking them to buy something off of you???
