Painfully basic measuring questions.

I know this is going to be painfully basic to most people, but I need some help with knowing how to measure some folder parts.
1] Screws for pocket clips. I want to get some aftermarket dress-up clip, but not sure how to measure the screws. Is this usually just a matter of knowing what size Torx screw it is?
2] Washers. This really has me stumped. To order these do I must measure the distance across and call this the diameter?
Are there some standard sizes that fit most?
3] Thumb studs. Once again, I want to order some after market dress up thumb studs, but not sure how to measure them.

Why am I doing this? I want to make some minor mods to the appearance of my knives. Kind of like the old saying about your rifle -- There are others like it, but this one is mine.

Thanks in advance to all.
