hey all-- this is probably a stupid question but--what parts are ok to put enamel on my kmg. i was thinking everything including arms ( that hold the platen,etc..), base, all parts visable. any advice on how to protect it from rust.-thanks marekz

I wouldnt paint the tool arms. They need to slide freely in the receiver. Even if the fit allowed for it, the paint would be soon rubbed/scraped off as the tool arm was was removed and adjusted through use. I painted mine with blue Hammerite and it seems to be holding up rather well. You are going to love the machine by the way!

Definately don't paint the arms. I did and ended up having to scrap it off as the arm did not slide into the receiver easily. Also don't take it apart as I did. Just tape it well and paint. I took everything apart and it ended up taking me quite a while to get it to run correctly.

Check out the photo album on my profile page for pics of my painting process. I agree with what others have said, I painted my tool arms and they do work that way but I just feel that they would slide a little easier without paint. Just hose them down with WD-40 and let them take a natural patina. I also agree with Jll346, I took most stuff apart to paint but ended up using a razor blade to scrape the paint off all the mating surfaces so I would've been seved just as well by painting with everything assembled.
