*** UPDATED DESCRIPTIONS, PRICE DROP ***
I have a pair of strange old hawkbills here. Both are extremely sharp and are in excellent condition with minor cosmetic blemishes to the nickel silver finish and horn of either handle.
The first is a "Sheldon Knife" made by the razor company Wade & Butcher. It is a friction folder with a flipper. Correction, I had thought this was a brass handle, but apparently it is stainless with a nickel silver finish. I was told this was made during the 1920s in Sheffield England. Opens very smoothly.
Next is a traditional Mexican "saca tripas." This was handmade from sawblade steel with a carved goat horn handle. I was told this could have been made between 1880 and 1920. Very lightweight, scary sharp, opens smoothly. This style of knife was designed for butchering goats and sheep, but those knives are larger with 5" or more blades. This is a 3" blade intended for discreet pocket carry in town. This is a fighting knife, disappears in the coin pocket of your Levis. There is a crack along the spine of the horn handle that does not affect function.
Photos show condition of both. Very light patina or scratches here and there.
Prices for either knife are all over the place. Both are collectible, usable, and unique. Sheldon Knife in this condition typically sells for between 100 and 130. Sacatripas in this size have peen posted everywhere from 50-500. This is an early pre-lock version.
I would like to sell them as a set at a reduced price. $85 shipped for the pair. This is a great deal. Lowball offers will be ignored. They look great in my display case.
