A topic a while back was on the Paiute Deadfall and how to build it in such a manner as to allow the support upright stick to not be in the way when the trap is triggered. A Y stick is used here and the top stick is cantilevered on the Y stick. This allows nothing to be in the way when the trap falls.

I built this trap today:

The support stick is sharpened and driven into the ground as you not here:

i use a trap similar to that prett often (although i have no idea of its name, assuming that it has one). i like it for improntu setup, as it dosent require much notching, and i find that those usually end up being more sensative than traditional figure fours.

I believe that is a John and Geri McPherson innovation, using a forked stick that it.

Rick,

Oh yeah - you don't need to sharpen the tip of either the Y stick or the top stick and the rest could be broken off. It is nice to make a flat surface on the toggle - but you could rub that on a rock - or grind it on your rock hard abs for that matter.

Nice one..I might have to try that this week.. in theory should also work with a fig.4 provided you get the notch on the rear of the baitstick right...
