After reading a post on here about flashlights, there was mention of this thing called "Pak_Lite". Hmmm.....I checked them out and they were cheap enough for me to order one. I got the Black top with the white led's. Man o Man what a cool idea! Just when you though no one could come up with something that was neat, here you go. I took it to work where most people here hunt or fish. Everyone loved it! Heck I love it to, but it does present a problem now....I want 4 more :) 1 for the house, 1 for the trailer, 1 for the truck, 1 for my emergency pack.....maybe I should get 5 :)

If you have no idea of what I'm talking about, go check them out. I think you'll be glad you did.

neat. good idea. I've been using a photon II clone that I order by the dozen for around $1 U.S. each. I have em stashed everywhere .These might be a better idea for the truck and the dirt bike as it would throw light for longer but it's still small & lightweight.

Thanks!

Those are neat, I also bought about 20 mini LED's from www.countycomm.com they are probably the best $1.00 you can spend. It even comes with the battery. I would highly recommend you check them out.

The Pak-Lite is a really cool idea. But they seem to be just a little bit pricey for what they are. I'd be more swayed if they could incorporate switching between both lights separately and using them both on steady at the same time. It looks like if you want both lights on steady, you need to order one model, and switchablility betweens LEDs, you need to order another model. But the idea of just snapping the module onto a battery is slick!

I am a sucker for compact and efficient task lighting, so I'll probably try the Pak-Lites out at some point. Thanks for the heads up and the link!

I don't mean to hijack, but my stand-by since last fall has been the Petzl e+lite. It runs on 2 lithium CR2032 batteries that can have a 10-yr shelf life. I recently obtained 2 more to stash in various packs. I find that when I am camping or doing other outdoor activities at night, I use LED task lighting 99% of the time.

Mountain Gear has then on sale now for $23, I think. The e+lite has several modes for white and red LEDs, will run for 45 hours on the low setting, and comes with batteris and a capsule-type case.

hikeeba, I love my pak-lite. My wife loves it enough she told me to buy a couple more :D but I think I'll look at the e+lite too

Scottman, I've got one of those, wouldn't spend the money again.

Amount of light it puts out is barely adequate. The flashing feature is useful in an emergency, but it is a "directional' light - if you know what I mean. It's now in the family emergency kit as the third or fourth back-up light. Hopefully someone else who likes it better can point out to me what I'm missing.

I have a few Safe-lights and enjoy them as emergency house lights. Their advantages are being waterproof, indestructable, long runtime off cells you get whenever you change your smoke alarms. The BOB types love them for the uncommon cell type and long runtimes. I keep them around in constant-on mode so I can grab them as I'm walking if the power goes off. Great indoor lights for outages, I'd recommend them to any household instead of cheapie lights. For the price of one Pak-light, I ended up with four Safe-Lights. I'm not paying thirty bucks for some plastic and two LEDs, small business or not.

For the outdoors...Would not recommend a Pak-light because of durability issues and extremely dim output. Safe-Lights are tough enough and cheap enough, but still not something I'd take in the woods.

Good points, thanks for pointing them out.

Don't sell the pak-lite short though. I've soaked it down canoeing, the kids played hockey with it:eek: , used it hunting, hiking, camping, accidently soaked it in the washing machine afterwards.....the light's fine, the battery fell apart.

Random 04, right there thats the best pitch for the Paklight yet. If it can withstand kids then there is nothing you can do to break it lol.

I got one of the "basic" models and it is what I expected. I like the bare bones design-- a skeletonized flashlight. I bought it just because it was clever. I agree that $26 is a little steep for the ultra bright one. Should make a great tent light.

Other lights I have:

Atom Cyclops mini headlamp. Runs on a couple coin cells. I take this for a day hiking backup. Get 'em on sale at mass market sporting goods stores. Nothing stellar, just tiny and cheap.

Streamlight 2AA Tasklight. Good workhorse. Good grip. A little big and heavy for hiking. Won't fit any of the mini Maglite holsters I have

Gerber Infinity Ultra (1 AA). A little heavy, but tough, simple, sealed.

Gerber Tracer headlamp (1 AAA, 2 led). Simple, tiny, multi-mode

Black Diamond Nightray headlamp. This my go-to hiking light. Multi-mode, can be used with up to five LED's or just a couple on half power. A little heavy, but tons o' light and lasts a long time on low.

Innova Microlight LED. Best micro LED light. Battery changes without tools, multi-mode.

CountyComm LED lights-- several styles, dirt cheap, works great. Keychain mount will break under EDC stress-- great for use on a lanyard or in a kit. At $1 to $1.50 each they should be all over the place.
