Paklite change?

So I went to wallyworld today to get a couple of deer tags and notice they have the Buck paklite for sale. It's the black coated one so I decided to pick it up and add it to the uncoated version I already have at home. The clerk takes it out of the box and right away it looks different from the one I already own, it's bigger. I passed it off thinking I must be crazy but sure enough I get home and it's much bigger than the version I have. It has Buck USA 143 on the side, my stainless paklite has Buck USA 140. I tried to search around and find the 143 version but can't even find it on Bucks site. Anyone know what's going on here? Is this a Walmart exclusive? New model? Are they keeping the 140 in production? I'll try to post a pick of the two in a bit, great knife either way. Any info is appreciated. Trevor~

Refering to the skinner model, not the caper.

I've been telling people that for something like two months now. :)

I like them both, but prefer the uncoated version. The balance is a bit better on it.

They are 2 different models. One is larger than the other. The 140 is not going away, the 143 is currently a Wally model, I do not know if it will be offered to anyone else.

Thanks for the info, both are great knives and a real bargain. Cord wrapped it with orange and hunter green paracord last night, it looks sweet! I'm gonna post up some pics at lunch to show the difference in size.

Also, they appear to be the same thickness.

Check out the differences on the back of the blade too. More options of finger placement on teh silver one. It is almost too cool. :)

No problem on the pics guys, I highly recommend either knife and at the price you can afford both. I prefer the smaller version for edc but the larger one would be much better for skinning and gutting larger game. It's funny, I just saw a write up in Field and Stream about four different knives each used by four different hunters. One of the knives reviewed was a Buck Packlite 140(smaller version) All really liked the Paklite and gave it great reviews but one minor complaint was a desire for a bit bigger blade, seems like they got their wish! Nice work Buck!

PS, just a PSA, if you pick one up and plan on doing a cord wrap might I suggest taping the blade with masking tape a few times to avoid slicing yourself a trip to the ER, this thing is scary sharp! Just peruse the ESSE forum and look for the bites that folks get wrapping their Izulas, not pretty and same thing will happen here. Enjoy!

I could use both of those!I like the cordwrap you did on them,we don't have a store that carries those local,i'll have to order thrm i guess!Nice!

Well someone posted in another thread within the last 2 days that "you guys are dangerous" and he was right. Whataya gonna do though, gotta have one:D

I had to go to 3 different wallys to find one-1st 2 were in the very near burbs to Pittsburgh, I guess a little too cosmopolitan to carry it:rolleyes:( they did have the 3 piece set of winchester wannabees) I live 20 miles outside of the Burgh and went another 10 past to find a wally that had all the new stock.

Here is a link to a video that shows how to do the basket weave wrap that I have on both knives, though he does it on an Izula. You will have to improvise a bit since the paklites are different than the izula with placement of the holes. That's the reason why the orange wrapped knife has a bit of solid color up front before the green weave starts. Good luck!

Thanks Trev, very helpfull.

My old local WM didn't have them, but my new local store did, and I have one now. I think I like the larger model. It will go in my pack for the upcoming deer season, and I think it will get wrapped in yellow paracord.
