Paklite change?

I picked up one (#143) last night - and promptly wrapped it. Wish I had read the mention of wrapping the blade in tape before I got the paracord out! Neat knife... and sharp!

PS 'New Skin' helps for paper cut like injuries... doesn't glue digits back so well.

I've been enjoying mine since I got it. I never saw the 140 in person, so I didn't even realize there was a difference. I like the size of the 143, just about perfect for me.

I found a walmart that had the 143 and I passed. Much thinner than the 140 and I like the thicker 140 better. If anyone is looking at these should know that and if you like thicker blade knives go with the 140.

My local store was out of them when I returned for a second one. The next nearest had the pegboard mounted knives in a locked case - and no 143's. Bass Pro lists the silver 140 at $20 - may have to try one.

Has anyone seen a clamshell pack hanging on a peg at a WallyWorld?

Thats what I looked for in my old store, none to be found in a clam shell. I got mine in the box at the store near work. Funny thing is online they say not available in store where I bought it.

My local WW has them in stock now and the 2 pack of imported slippies. Sadly, there was no one in the sporting goods dept to sell me any today. Will stop by another day. $17 for the Paklite seems good, not sure I'll get the imported slippies for $19 though.

WOW!!! I've seen these babies online, but didn't realize they were so much larger than my 140.

Man, i love my little 140 blade!!! Thanks Buck soooo much for putting this knife out to us! On another note, I wonder why Buck has made this 143 thinner? I'm thinking for cost purposes to reach/maintain a price-point - always a balance.

I'm not going to do the paracord wrap thing (impedes using the holes as a mischmetal striker), but will definitely rough-up the 'jimping' along the spine at the thumb rest - just a shade slippery. I also may rough-up and add some 'jimping' in/around the finger choil (?) spot before the edge begins.

Mine came, in true Buck fashion, scary sharp. After a fair bit of whittling, some batoning (no, i'm not kidding) and what not, i've re-sharpened it and i believe it's sharper than when i got it. In any event, it will undoubtedly take off a significant portion of finger meat if i'm not exercising good knife handling. Just how it should be.
