PALAVER 2

Weekend $ale $240 Shipped CONUS; I normally never discount my pieces on the forums - I just send them to one of the shops in the ski areas.
But I'd rather give the "forum folk" a $25 discount vs paying the shop their commission; and remember, I'm still paying the shipping and insurance.

This is a new design just out of the Jarrett Knives shop. It’s the new, Palaver 2 – this one in buffalo horn.

The Palaver was designed in response to a discussion with a professional hunting guide about how he uses knives in cold weather...specifically for field dressing, skinning, and camp chores while wearing gloves. He wanted a nice wide blade and a recessed handle to make it easy to control and safe to use when your hands are cold. Now of course I made certain that it was 100% comfortable with or without gloves for year ‘round use. He tested four of them this past season and loved them. He claims that they are all he's going to order for his guys for next year’s hunting season.

The Palaver 2 is the same profile as the original, but the guide I spoke with also wanted to try one with finger choils to see if that added extra control.

The way that they came out, I think of them as “finger ledges” instead. This knife has a truly unique and ultra comfortable
handle design. I like both the original and this newer version – I can’t really say which one is more comfortable or controllable.
Here is a link to one of the original Palaver's (with palm swell, no finger choils) in Jigged Buffalo http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=712429

A nice tapered tang for great balance in the hand.

NOTE: The sheath in the picture went with the Jigged Palaver. One will be made to your specs for this knife.

From my post last weekend of the Palaver in Maple Burl...

I'll second that.
Looking forward to seeing the buffalo horn...

Well buddy, here is one of them! And I posted the one in jigged Buffalo horn this afternoon as well> http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=712429

Take care all and God Bless.

Wayne,
Great looking knife. The sheath will look great and someone will enjoy your design of this blade. I would see someone using this knife for deer or One Big Elk here in CO.

Thanks Mr. Wiggins!

What the heck....

Wow, that is one crazy beautiful knife. Wish I had the green for it!! Keep it up, you knives are some of my favorites.

Do you think the handle is more comfortable with -- or without -- the finger choils/scallops? I love the look of both these -- this one and the previous one with the palm swell.

AJ - Of course as the maker I'm partial to both styles. However, the outfitter that I designed these for had more to say. He likes them equally but he said that he has a bit better control when skinning etc. with the one with choils. He said that his hand didn't seem to tire as much as it did with conventional handled knives. He may have a little carpal tunnel going on, I'm not sure.

Now these are not deep choils that fully envelope your fingers. They are more like ledges or ramps - pretty unique. They allow your fingers to grab the knife in multiple ways. One customer said it felt similar to holding a woodwind instrument (trumpet, clarinet, etc.) with your fingers on the keys and your thumb along the spine. He likes his a lot.

Thanks for the interest!
