Pantina question...

I was looking on you tube and found a method where a guy boils vinegar and knife together. It looks to work and only takes a few min. Has anyone tried this? Al so, has anyone done this or any other vinegar patina with the knife scales ( micarta ) still on, or did you stop before the scales? Thanks!

This method does work but does not stain the metal deeply, easily polished off with normal use. Micarta is relatively heat and moisture resistant but boiling it in vinegar is asking for trouble, might work though

I think you can achieve the same thing by applying boiling hot vinegar with a swab of some sort. Apply over and over, oil and then degrease between applications and keep repeating. I haven't done it but I saw the result. It is an overall black coloration rather than the natural patina that looks way better. Sort of like blueing a gun really.
