Pants, not too casual not too tactical....suggestions

I want to get a couple new pairs of pants. I have plenty of jeans but they're not always the most comfortable in certain situations.

What I'm looking for is some good khaki pants, tougher than dockers (which I don't care for style wise anyway), but comfortable. Some good storage is a plus, but I'm not looking for full on BDU's. Extra fabric in the gusset and/or knee doesn't hurt but isn't totally necessary.

I want these for wearing in mild to cool weather on hikes or camping trips and urban walks with the family as well.

Let me know which brands or styles are your favorites!

I usually wear jeans or Dockers Khakis. The Dockers are pretty weak. Maybe Carhart makes something. Confession: I don't know much about fashion.

I like the 511 covert tactical pants. They don't scream tactical like the original 511 tactical pants do.

I wear North Face Paramount Peak convertibles. Perfect for cool weather hikes. Add thin smartwool under and your good for pretty cold conditions. Big plus with half spandex waist in back.
They come in different lengths so you are sure to not be wearing flood pants if your tall.

* Durable, midweight, abrasion-resistant nylon
* DWR (durable water repellent) finish
* Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) 30
* Quick-drying
* Partial elastic waist with belt loops, zip-fly, and belt included
* Pant legs zip off to 10" short
* Color-coded convertible leg zips

* Front cargo pockets rotated to side
* Back pocket size increased for extra capacity
* Secure zip pocket near right hand pocket
* Side-leg zips for easy on-off
* Gusset at crotch for increased mobility
* Strong, TEX40 thread throughout for increased durability
* 30" inseam (short), 32" inseam (regular), 34" inseam (long)
* Imported

Check out the offerings from Craghoppers - not sure if you can get them in the US but they are good action.

Cant believe that my first post on a knives forum is going to be about pants :confused:

Anyway my favourites are Arctyrex Spotter Pants which are super comfortable due to the articulated design, extremely hard wearing (climbing pants). They also look great IMHO. You can also buy the shorts version which are equally amazing:

Kuhl are also pretty good, hard wearing too but I personally prefer the Arctyrex fit and look: http://www.backcountry.com/kuhl-crag-runner-pant-mens

I have worn the Arctyrex in 50c Climbing in Italy and they handled the temperatures surprisingly well. Wore then in the Scottish highland's to -15 without thermals or waterproof layers and they were fine too.

The North Face, Craghoppers, or Columbia pants. Craghoppers do run small so size up around thw waist.. TNF pants are comfy, but double check the length to avoid high water style, unless you dig that puddle jumper look.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys!:thumbup: I'll have to browse through them all more thoroughly when I get home from work tonight!

Check out Gander Mountain. They make really nice pants and they are very cheap. I usually buy fancy name brand stuff, but have been really impressed with their clothing. Pretty much all I wear out in the wilderness.

I am a big fan of Duluth Firehose wear, not cheap but great clothes and customer service. Their shipping is expensive so it is worth calling them to find out if they are offering a discount on it.

Well, I've looked over a bunch of the sites, so far the Crag Runner pants and the Tru Specs seem to be what I'm looking for!:thumbup: The Fire Hose pants from Duluth look really nice too, but seem like they might be too heavy for wearing in the summertime, which is what I'm getting ready for.

Appreciate all the input guys!
