Pants, not too casual not too tactical....suggestions

I wear Duluth Firehose or Carhartt for heavy work and building treehouses, but you said you want something "less casual". In that case, the best khakis I've ever seen, and I've had 5 pair that have been in service for 10 years, is:

I've never seen anything even close to the cast-iron toughness of these pants, in something that you could iron and wear to the office under a blazer, or take wrinkled out of the dryer and wear for raking leaves.

The original model is based on the GI pattern of WWII, and they've since added pleats, reverse pleats, and shorts.

Welcome to BF! Lots more to do here than just knives:D Thanks also, your first post on BF was a good one. I just ordered a pair of Crag Runners from Backcountry. Decent price and free shipping:thumbup:

Cant believe that my first post on a knives forum is going to be about pants

Anyway my favourites are Arctyrex Spotter Pants which are super comfortable due to the articulated design, extremely hard wearing (climbing pants). They also look great IMHO. You can also buy the shorts version which are equally amazing:

Kuhl are also pretty good, hard wearing too but I personally prefer the Arctyrex fit and look: http://www.backcountry.com/kuhl-crag-runner-pant-mens

I have worn the Arctyrex in 50c Climbing in Italy and they handled the temperatures surprisingly well. Wore then in the Scottish highland's to -15 without thermals or waterproof layers and they were fine too.

Go figure huh! Welcome to the forum!

To the OP, have you checked out Vertx? They're a collaboration between Fechheimer, Arc’teryx and federal law enforecement.
They're main site has a close-out on their black pants right now since they changed the shade of black they use. I just tried to order a pair but it's too bad they only ship within the US.

Charhartt. The 8oz cotton ones are awesome. Great for everyday and good freedom of movement. You can get them in lots of colors and with reinforced knees too.

I ordered one pair of the Crag Hoppers and a pair of the Tru Specs, we'll see how they do:thumbup:

I own 3 pairs of Mountain Khakis, two are the double fabric ones. I think they are stiched well, good waist, pockets, and gusset. Mine seemed to fall apart sooner than expected. The fabric is soft, maybe they went too far in that regard. They are a bit heavy, like those heavy duty Carhartts.
They should last longer for the money.

I think the pants you are looking for are wrangle rigs wear ranger pants, you can find them online, or at a sporting goods store. I got mine at either bass pro or Cabelas. They have the gussetted crotch reinforced pockets and snap closure(I hate velcro) cargo pockets that lay flat when when they aren't full of stuff. They are made of ripstop material. I wear mine all the time.

What you want is some good ole Wrangler cargo's. I believe you can get them with or without the cargo pockets. I wear them almost everyday. They don't look "tactical" and they are far from "dressy". I wear them everywhere. Nobody would think to say I look suspicious while wearing them. I've also put them through hell and they hold up extremely well.

My 5.11 Tac lites are about my favorite pants. I have been wearing them for the past couple of days and I am reminded about how comfortable they are.

Please update with your impressions as soon as you can! Which model of Crag Hoppers did you choose?

They're supposed to be here today, and to correct my earlier post, they are the Crag Runners, not hoppers, from Kuhl. I got them from the back country link in the post near the top of the page.

Okay, I've been wearing the Crag Runners all afternoon. So far I'm really digging these pants. Really rugged, but they're pretty darn comfy too. Love the cut, the weathered look finish is very cool. Good freedom of movement.

I'm already wishing I bought two pairs, but shipping was free from Back country, so that's no biggie:thumbup:

I'd recommend 'em.

Arborwear hands down for khaki style material.....cotton or a cotton blend. I like REI and EMS brand hiking convertible pants. Tough, dry fast, and cheap.

4 way stretch soft shell pants are around $100, and wear great, super comfy!
