This was a Simonds Mill Bast File that belonged to my Grandfather. I found the file in the tool shed when my Grandmother passed away at Thanksgiving. I made it to place in the auction at the family reunion this weekend. Good thing I found more than one file. The handle is Desert Ironwood.

Wonderful gesture. This is a fine way to remember your grandfather.

To me, that's the answer to "why do folks want to make file knives." Great way to memorialize an ancestor.

That's one of my services. I will take Dad's deer antler and put it on a blade of grandpa's file. Or use wood from the barn for a handle. Great heirloom piece. Nice looking knife.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I hope that some family members buys it and will treasure it as I would.
