So.. Bought my first busse a while back, a unused cabs le.
Paid about half of what i see they go for here, so had no hesitation putting it to use! Loving the knife!!

But the paper micarta handles look like they May be sunbleached? So i wonder if anyone have experience in how to polish/refinish this material?

Are you sure the handles are paper ? That really looks like black G10 to me in the pics.

All info i could find online says its paper micarta, but my only experience with g-10 is from pocketknives..
But it does seem more "organic" too me

It's hard to tell in pic, I have a Garth edt NMSFNO with black G10 that I received from shop. When I received it I could've swore it was black canvas due to the grey in the black. Had very much what you describe as a sun faded look. Black paper has a very deep rich black color to it.

almost looks like paper Mic. that has been sanded or buffed with something abrasive (maybe a scotchbrite)...

and there's something about that diamond quilted pattern that doesn't look quite right to me, especially up around the talon hole area...just can't put my finger on it

It might be sanded/blasted/tumbled with some medium. That would make it look like that. My one black paper wasn't that color.

Does it darken when wet or oiled?

How about washing the handles ? If someone tried a compound or something on it, some residue may be on it. I used dawn dish soap or comet to clean a tigerhide handeled knife I have. It worked really well and I was surprised at the change .

I would probably give it a good wash and then apply a very light coat of mineral oil once dry.

I got black paper and they look coal black and almost slick like appearance. Those look like black canvas. The black paper is really smooth and has a silky feel to it. Almost feels like what bone feels like once sanded. Canvas will have a bit more rough feeling. Good test would be to run your finger nail along the handle. If you can feel ridges easily its canvas. It is feels mostly smooth and almost no ridges then its paper. Hope this helps. These pics show black canvas vs black paper.

Was under the impression these only came with black paper micarta handles?

They feel very smooth... its only the color. .
I will try to lightly sand it and put on some oil👍

Looks like black G10 to me. But I have more experience with G10 than paper mic.

It is,, your paper micarta just looks a little dry,, give it some mineral oil to drink and it should be all good.

Old Olt duck calls would get a similar dried out look to them. I found that a shot of Pledge furniture polish would kind of "rehydrate" them, make them jet black again and it didn't wash out. I know it's not the same material but it might be worth a try.

I will say, avoid putting BLO on them,, makes them tacky,, but pretty smelly too! I kept thinking "did I gut a carp with this thing???"
Next time I'll just put mineral oil on
