Ive had very good results with my Spydie Sharpmaker for my pocket knives but wanted something with a little extra oomph for larger items. so i read countless posts by Richard J. about his use of paper wheels and decided to give them a go.

in less than a day of getting the feel for it i felt confident enough to sharpen any of my items with it and all i can say is that the finishing wheel is pretty incredible. here is a video i made showing what i got and demonstrating a sharpening.

Richard... dont critique me too harsh, its only my 2nd day with it! :p

email me the link. i can always go watch it at a friends. include your number and i'll give you a call.

It looks like you have mastered that one quickly. I use it the same way- wheels moving away from you, and with a headlamp, too! I wonder if your Sharpmaker will end up collecting dust (like mine does).
Good sharpening,
Dave

i sharpen with the wheels rotating to me and sharpen around the 1:00 position with the edge facing me. you can see what you are doing much better. matching up an existing edge is a lot easier since you can see the gap close when the edge meets the wheel. i used my slotted wheel when i first started out. seeing the gap close was a lot easier.
