How much wax should I apply to my abrasive wheel for my Paper Wheels?

Should I apply it every time I use the wheel?

Should the wheel be running when I apply it?

I ask this because the wheel worked wonderful with the first few blades but isn't going as quick now and i'm wondering if I have too much wax. I apply wax every time I use it and apply while the wheel is spinning by hand, not turned on.

Is it normal to have a wax build up on the blade after a few passes with this wheel?

Wax? I use compound on mine. It came w/ a little piece of white and when I ran out of it I use pink no scratch on it. I generally put a little on it each time I use it and apply it w/ it spinning.

That's the slotted buffing wheel, I'm talking about the one with the grit

In my experience with poly fans a little wax will help the wheel last longer. I think that if you're getting a lot of wax build up on the blade during use then you probably have too much wax on the wheel. I would just stop adding wax for a while and you'll probably be okay.
Also, I like to add the wax while the wheel is turned on.
What kind of wax are you using?

If I remember the instructions that came with the wheel it was suggested to use it sparingly everytime you turn on the wheel but too much will reduce the effectivness of the grit.

The wax is to hold the grit in place, you may have covered the grit or maybe removed the grit, the kit also comes with replacement grit, feel the wheel and see if there is any grit left.

Mine came with a so-called "grease" kit. I suppose that it is actually wax, but the purpose is to prevent heat build up. I bet that if you stop using it for a few blades, the grit will start biting again (as mentioned above).

the wax doesnt hold the grit on, white glue does and the grit is sprinkled on after putting
an even coat on the wheel. after it dries you apply the wax. i rub it on with the wheel stopped and rub it in to keep wax particles from flying off.

If not sure, clean the wheel off by running against an old file ,and re-apply the grit.

Maybe I need to rub it in better as it does look like it doesn't coat the wheel perfectly. I'll go a few blades without the wax and see what happens.
