Month or so back, I spoke with Richard J breifly in PM's here on the forums about paper wheel sharpening. Took his advise and gave them a shot. Took me 2 attempts on my beater CS Lawman and I pretty much had the technique down. Edges would slice paper like nothing and shave hair off my arm. I was able to get all of these knives sharper than the factory edge easily.

I do think there is room for improvement though, thinking I just need to play with the angles a little more. Richard, if you read this, maybe you can throw a few tips at me . The paper wheels are the real deal and will put a polished edge on your knife in minutes, if not faster. I was confident enough after sharpening my Lawman to hit these four on the wheels and they came out sharper than the factory edges. A Scrapper 6, SR RMD, SR Rodent Solution, and one of my EDC's, Spyderco Superleaf. Needless to say, I am very impressed with the wheels and anyone on the fence about these, do not hesitate.

Tried to snap a few pics to capture the edges, hopefully they come out ok. Thanks again Richard :D

Very nice. I may just have to look into this system. Can you tell us where you got yours? Any links you can post?

There is no comparing the quick learning curve of the wheels with any other system.....truly when you take into account the time involved for an accomplished user. Richard will also prove invaluable if you have a problem. Thanks again Richard, your advice was dead on! If you have not tried it you cannot know what you are missing. Just look up his thread for where to get wheels. Good Luck!

Thrill,

Here is a picture of my setup. Bought the grinder at Lowe's hardware, it a variable speed grinder, about $65 I think. Bought the wheels from my local Woodcraft store. Think you can go to Woodcraft.com and see if there is a location near you. The system is called "Razor Sharp Edgemaking". Think you can get the wheels, wax, rouge all for around $50. So I have little under $120 in the whole setup.

Thank you for this thread Bapple, I have been on the fence for a while now. This just what I needed to help me pull the trigger on the wheels. I just ordered a set and can't wait to try them. :D

I have pretty much the same setup as Bapple's except I use a 6" buffer that I got from Harbor freight. I use the 8" wheels.

I turned the base of the buffer around so that the wheels spin away from me.
