you dont clean them. if the buffing wheel becomes slightly bumpy you can sand it flat by using a piece of coarse paper against a board that you rest under the wheel and lightly bring into contact with the wheel using light pressure until the wheel is flat all the way around. the same method for preparing the abrasive wheel for recoating. use the wax that comes with the wheels to make the grit last longer.
