Paper Wheels

hawks and axes have a tendency to bounce when first making contact due to the weight. be careful and try not to use too much pressure like you would with a knife.

Just picked up a set. I practiced on a handfull of SAK's and was then able to take a beat up axe to shaving sharp in about 5 minutes. And, half of that time was spent changing the wheels out because I don't have a 2-wheel gringer. AWESOME!!!!!

if there is a grizzly imports store close by you can get them there or you can get them at a woodcraft store. there are 5 stores in florida. click the dealers tab on mikes website.

My paper wheels arrived while I was camping, and I set them up, ran them a little bit, and I noticed that the gritted wheel shakes horizontally, so it's not perfect, but I sharpened the back of a hacksaw blade to practice a little, and then all of my knives and they pop hair off my arm, and I think that is just sooo cool!

By the way, I got them from Grizzly imports online.

I have used the rouged one for years. It wont wear out. I dont even know where the gritted one is. I just use a 220 or 320 grit slack belt on my grinder to establish the burr and take it off on the cardboard wheel with pink compound. I can sharpen about one knife every minute this way. I should just sharpen knives for a living because I figure I can make about $60 per hour if they would just keep em coming.

mike, if you call grizzly and tell them the wheel wobbles they will replace it. the wheel shouldnt wobble. the 2 grit wheels i just bought run true but they came direct from mike.

I use mine the same way. I use a 1x42 belt then use the paper wheel, real quick and easy. I can make them even sharper by using a leather belt to strop the blade ( very lightly ) after the paper wheel.
Every once in a while I use sandpaper to clean the excess compound from the wheel

homes, you must not be doing something right. you shouldnt need to use a strop after buffing with the wheel.

I havent tried stropping after but there is a quick break-in after the rouge wheel. I clean the rouge off with WD 40 and cut a couple slivers of paper to test my work. At first it doesnt want to cut but about 3 cuts and it is scary sharp. I think Homes stropping must be doing the same thing to the blade.

I did lots of asking when i started 6 months ago and bought one a month later. I was taking an hour to sharpen now i can do it in 1 min the best easiest sharpener ive got. If you dont have one you just are missing the boat. kellyw

Glad to see so many believers :)

I just delivered one last week. First reaction was "DAMN!!!! That's SHARP!!!!" No, no stitches...

JT lmao you are crazy, but funny. I cut myself several times now ive hung a rabbits foot in my shop and never used a bandage or visited the hospital since. The great thing about the sharpening system is you can reload the grit back on the wheel and keep on going. Also Ranger knives carrys a simular white rouge for the other paper wheel and they are the best price in Canada

some one asked about whats the difference about a grinding wheel and a paper wheel for sharpening . The difference is huge go to you tube and type it in . kellyw
