Para 2 centering

Hi All- Any advice on how to center the blade on my Para 2? I've taken it apart and made sure all the tolerances are correct and the blade is still off center. The blade isn't rubbing up against the handle but still...a little annoying.

Had a same thing happen to a friend and had no luck even sending it back to Spyderco.

It came back off centered and that's not a good sign...

hey n2,
this is just probably an assembly issue, easy to fix.
first, loosen all the screws, but don't remove them. then take a wedge, folded paper, or whatever you have, and put it between the blade and liners on the side that's almost touching the liner,, forcing the blade to the opposite side of the knife.
then tighten the screws, and adjust the pivot to your liking.
it may take you a few tries to get it centered, but this method should solve your problem.
hope it works out for you!
good luck!

Live with it, if you can.

To each his own, but centering has never bothered me on a production folder. I carry mostly slip-joints anyway. Until I find a "centering-issue" on one of my knives start to effect the way it cuts or locks, it won't be a factor to me. -- just my .02

Almost every Spyderco I've ever owned has this issue. It's due to either uneven blade grinding or warping. I'm sorry to have to say it, but Spyderco doesn't know how to center blades.

The only Spydies I have w/ centering issues with are the ones made here in the USA. Not all of them, just a few. None of my Japanese or my two Taiwanese Spydies have centering issues.
You guys ever see a forigen made spyderco w/ centering issues?

My Tenacious was offcenter when I got it, but I did the loosen everything/paper trick and it's centered perfectly now.

I hope I don't end up with this issue on my Para 2. Just got one off the exchange over the weekend and it should be shipping out either today or tomorrow.

How does that paper trick work?

I like tinkering with stuff and this may help one of my non-spyderco knives center better :)

hey b,
i don't have a para 2, so i'm not sure about the new pivot bushing, but on most knives this trick works. the wedge just forces things into a different alignment, blade, liners, and backspacers. the torque on the blade and pivot shifts the liners slightly, and when you tighten the screws, it holds in this new alignment.
hope that makes sense.
hope your new spydie doesn't have this problem!
good luck!

These screwed together knives torque a little bit. Loosen up the screws, give a little torque left or right and I think you'll find that it will center up. Then carefully retighten the screws. The blade is probably centered but the handles are skewed...if you will. My Military is centered but I had to center it. Once I realized that it was the handles, it was easy. I think this is as much a material issue as not...G10 is kinda flexible so it can skew. I have not titanium knives so not sure about that material.

Out of the 5 I currently own, I have 4 with centering issues.

You must be buying the 2nds then. I've only had 1 with an off center blade out of 75+ Spydercos :D

I've had a big handful with off centered blades over the recent years myself. It's a pet peeve of mine and I prefer not to hear the "if it doesn't rub just use it" :) Honeslty, I've had much more centering problems with higher end production knives than I have with <$50 chinese knives during my knife days and that benchmark alone is enough for me to ask why . . .

I feel the same way about it.
